Jerry Jones: Tackling must improve

August, 11, 2014

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

OXNARD, Calif. – Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was on radio silence before and after his team played the San Diego Chargers last week until Sunday.

While the defensive performance was disconcerting -- 395 yards allowed, 152 rushing yards, Chargers quarterbacks completed all but two passes -- Jones did not believe it was a flashback of what plagued the Cowboys' defense in 2013 when it finished last in the league.

Jones mentioned two rookie draft picks that caught his eye in cornerback Terrance Mitchell and linebacker Anthony Hitchens, but the fundamentals bothered him most.

“I don’t know that it brought back bad memories but I’m sure glad it was in the preseason rather than in some of those last three or four ballgames that we had,” Jones said after Sunday’s practice. “If we’re going to gap … then when it’s your time to make the tackle, you’ve got to make the tackle. To me the other night was all about not tackling and not making the tackle when you had the chance to make it. Tackling can be worked on, will be worked on. We’ll get better tackling and we’ve got players out here that can execute the system.”

Not really sure how Jerruh expects tackling to improve when they run the most cupcake camp of any team in the league

Wasn't that supposed to be a part of the "culture change" Garrett was talking about? I almost hope we start off 0-5. I'm starting to hate Garrett as much as Jerry. Haha.

A. The players are slow.
B. The players are small.
C. The players are castoffs from CFL teams.
D. The players are good guys with championship attitudes so that's good character.

The sad thing is the poor Tackling is a result of A, B, and C and D has done nothing to create wins.

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Fuck off Jerry Jones. You are the reason why this team has been completely mediocre for 20 years. Enjoy your money and average-looking whores. You've ruined one of the greatest franchises in sports.

Guys ... Give Jason a break.

He's only been head coach 3+ years.

It takes time to implement the fundamentals like tackling and such.

It's a process.

Point A is a major problem on the team. There are too many players that are considered slow for their positions. Church is a good example. He is a slow safety and he will never be a top safety because of it. There is just a total lack of team speed, especially on defense and it shows. There should be a point E. this team has does not play smart football. They are too dumb for the defensive schemes. Rob's scheme was to complicated for them and they are having trouble with the current scheme, which is very simple by NFL standards.
