As of Tuesday morning, Jerry Jones said he had not yet received an update on DeMarco Murray’s Monday evening left hand surgery. The Cowboys owner and general manager read that as a good sign the procedure went well, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Jones did not rule out Murray for Sunday’s game against Indianapolis, adding that the NFL’s leading rusher could be a game-time decision.

Jones said Murray would not need to practice this week in order to play.

“I think we just want to take a look at it,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “We don’t know. When they say the definition of healing, I’m not so sure how much it can heal between now and Sunday. I haven’t been shown examples of where someone has had an injury like this.

“It’s not uncommon, I’m not saying it’s an every day occurrence, but it’s not uncommon for a back to have a hand injury. They do take some hits on that hand. But I know it’s in a place where it can really be protected. We do that and we see that often with different kind of hand injuries. Certainly he’s got a lot of parts to his game that work – protection, what he does, frankly, with that hand when he’s running with the ball, he usually carries it in his right hand. All of those things, it’s conceivable to me, it’s not unrealistic that it could work with him being ready.”

If Murray is unable to play, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will see larger workloads.

If Murray is out, we can get a gauge of how effective our Oline truly is. I don't think Murray is a 1,700-1,800 yard back behind just any old line, but still.

It's also up to Randle being able to choose the right holes to hit.

Murray's gonna play... he ain't about to let Randle come in and run for 100+ and make him look expendable.

I really think we need to sit Murray and give Randle and Dunbar the reigns. They've been very effective in reserve roles.

We have a big decision to make in the offseason regarding Murray. This is a great opportunity to educate ourselves in what we've got.

Great line that we had in the 90s, and no back was ever really effective behind it, except Emmitt.

Yep.

Although there is one guy who looked like he might be something really interesting. Had a VERY brief career due to devastating injury.

Lets see what sort of guesses we have on who and when it was.

His career lasted only two games. But he opened some eyes in 1991 and some described him as an Earl Campbell type RB.

His name was Ricky Blake, he went to Alabama A&M. He only got carries in a couple games then got injured, but flashed some real potential. I believe it was a hip injury that ended his career.

I've been trying to find some clips of him for those that don't remember him or never saw him.

Had the unfortunate and non memorable number of 46. Averaged about 5 yards a pop due to a 30 yard TD he ripped off against the Bungles if I'm not too much mistaken. Got hurt a few weeks later vs Phoenix.

Might have been something there, no way to tell.

I remember the Cowboy people were really bummed out when he got hurt, thought they had found a diamond in the rough. He was big, physical and had decent speed.

I remember thinking he was a good changeup from the nifty Emmitt, give them a bull rusher every now and then to deal with. Dude was huge even by the RB standards of that day and age.

I also remember he was a refugee from the "We Laugh" league, WLAF.
