Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne said he will miss Sunday's game at the Washington Redskins because of a hamstring injury.
Claiborne has missed the last three games because of the injury, but his rehab was slowed last week by the death of his father and the birth of a baby girl.
The plan was for Claiborne to return for the Green Bay Packers game last week, but after his father, Robert Owens, suddenly passed away, he went to Shreveport, La., to help with grieving family members. Claiborne also had to head back to Dallas for the birth of his daughter, Madison.
"Last week, we were shooting for this week, but since we missed a week, last week, getting treatment and not being here to do stuff because I had to go home, it set us back," Claiborne said on his weekly radio show on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. "It was a big setback. I sat down with the trainers, I feel like I'm good. I'm in the same sense of where I was the first time. So I sat down with the trainers and we talked about it and it could go either way. 'We need you. But we’re not going to play you this week.' [It] gives it a little bit more time and see what happens for the last game."
Claiborne, who has one interception this season, has missed a total of five games because of hamstring injuries. He suffered the injury Oct. 27 at Detroit, and was inactive the next two games before returning for the Nov. 24 game at the New York Giants. He aggravated the injury, and he hasn't played since.
Claiborne said he didn't rush back from the injury and noted that he passed all the tests necessary to return to the field.
"You can feel good and go out and do it again," he said.
