Dez Bryant expected to miss practice again

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 15, 2011, 11:12 AM EDT

Dez Bryant AP

Maybe Drew Pearson has a point.

For all the excitement that Dez Bryant generates on the field, he doesn’t stay on the field enough. Matt Mosley of the FoxSportsSouthwest.com reports that Bryant and cornerback Terence Newman will both miss practice again on Thursday.

It looks like Newman will miss his second straight week. Bryant also missed practice Wednesday with a “thigh contusion” and his status for Sunday’s game against the 49ers looks to be in doubt.

Bryant missed four games last year and was at less than 100% for many more. He hurt his quad against the Jets and was gimpy for a large portion of the game.

Mid is your mancrush fading yet?

And on a sidenote we should beat the 49er's with Ogletree and Holley starting. With or without Bryant we lose this game we got bigger issues than a constantly gimped up baggy drawers WR prima donna.

No way he misses the game. I just don't see it.

If he does, I expect Martellus Bennett has a break out game.

I figure Witten will be tied up with Willis all afternoon. Willis is one of the few ILB's in the game that can run with Wit. Austin will have double coverage.

So Bennett coming back should make an impact in the passing game if there's no Dez.

But ultimately I think Dez gets on the field on game day.

l am pretty sure he plays, but the real problem here is that this guy is not good enough to keep missing practice.

IN nearly every game he has played he has made mental mistakes. The end of the saints game and the other night if in fact that was on him were game changing plays that all stemmed from a mental mistake.

all his barking and taunting wont fix that, only practices will.

I think its a real problem he is not out there.

I just hope he will be wearing thigh pads. Thank God for Cowboy Joe.

The plays that call for him to be tackled? True, he does not know any of them.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says wide receiver Dez Bryant will play Sunday

IRVING -- Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he anticipated that second-year wide receiver Dez Bryant would play Sunday.

Bryant, who has been hampered by a thigh contusion, was not participating at practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's session.

He said he suffered the injury during a 12-yard punt return in the first quarter of the Cowboys' 27-24 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

Asked if the team is taking precautionary measures with regards to Bryant's health, Jones replied, "Cautious is not so much the word for it. We think he can get ready and every day we buy giving him some time off on it I think we can."

Bryant made three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown against the Jets but his pro career has been marked by setbacks. During his rookie year, he incurred ankle, hamstring, rib, and hip injuries before suffering a fractured right fibula last December that ended his first NFL season prematurely.

"He loves to play and wants to get himself out there," head coach Jason Garrett said. "Now, unfortunately, he has some injuries since he's been here - some serious, legitimate injuries that he's had to fight through and he'll continue to learn how to fight through those in practice and get himself out to practice and get himself as ready as he can be come game time. But this guy loves to play football. He's very passionate about it and he shows it in all that he does."

I wish I would only hear player news from Jason.

Can Jerry just stick to telling us about stadium and merchandise stuff?

Its a F'in thigh bruise....A F'in track athlete can still run with that....That SOB better play

Did he come out of the game the other night right when it happened, even though 100's on these forums were saying he should have?

No, he stayed in till the end.

Truth be told, if he doesn't play, I'm fine with it. We SHOULD be able to beat the 49ers without Dez. I'd rather have him for the Redskins the following week.

No, he stayed in till the end.

He gutted it out and was able to drag his leg around the field, but having him out there was a disadvantage to the offense, IMO.

Tony forced two balls his way, one of them were picked and led to the Jets taking the lead. Revis was already all over him before the injury. Revis didn't have to do much the rest of the night. Just wait for Romo to force a ball to a guy that can't get any separation.

If he's in the same shape Sunday, no, he shouldn't be on the field.
