Cowboys tried to sign Pool and Lawrence Vickers last year but didn't have enough money.

Guess we couldn't squeeze that 1 year, vet minimum offer the Jets gave him under our cap.

Cowboys sign Brodney Pool

March, 15, 2012

By Calvin Watkins

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said during a Thursday morning conference call with reporters the team signed safety Brodney Pool.
Terms were not disclosed.

Pool played for the New York Jets the last two seasons and was credited with four quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and one interception last season.

Garrett said the team wanted to sign Pool last year, during the brief free agency period, but was unable to due to finances.

"He has some really good ball skills," Garrett said.

Pool has played with Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with the Cleveland Browns in the 2009 season. Under Ryan, Pool had a career-high four interceptions and also had 10 pass breakups.

A second-round pick from Oklahoma by the Browns, Pool is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas

idk, I'm whatever about this signing. We have another scrub safety, a younger version of Elam, probably.

Yep. No reason for optimism or distress. Just another one-year placeholder 'til someone better comes along.

Dude. If this doesn't fire you up about our safety prospects, nothing will...

HE HAS BALL SKILLZ!! as evidenced by the interception.

As Mickey would say, if he is so good why did the Jets let him go?

He might be on the decline but still a slight improvement over the production Elam had.

Yeah. I mean, a safety starved team running a carbon copy defense as ours just said "FU begone."

Can't really get amped over this move.

I dont know how anyone can say that when the guy we had just went 16 games, and didnt intercept a single pass, or even managed to DEFLECT a single pass. NOT ONE. You'd think by accident he'd have a couple passes defensed. In all my years of watching football and looking at stats, I couldnt think of a single instance where a teams starting safety started all 16 games, and didnt get a pass defensed and failed to get a pick. he has 13 career picks and 50 passes defensed, including back to back seasons in 2009 and 2010 (for Rob and then rex) with double digit passes defensed.

Poole is not a star by any means. But at least he has some success making plays on the football, and this secondary, especially the safety position SORELY needs that.

This definitely wasnt a break the bank signing, and he's a vastly better player than Abe Elam, this is a decent move by the team to improve a qweak position.

They didnt let him go, he was under a 1yr deal. Last yr he chose to stay with the team.

He has 13 career picks and 50 passes defensed, so he does have some ball skills.

The guy we had last yr pulled a double goose egg in those stats.

Meh. He was a benchwarmer who couldn't even beat out a white safety in NY. You can be technically "better" than Elam and still suck.

Brodney Pool gets 1 year deal with Dallas. Keeps the possibility of drafting a safety in play

Makes no sense. Should have just kept Elam around one more year.

How much is Pool's contract, Mid?

A veteran stopgap for one year who hopefully will be an upgrade over what we trotted out last year.

Huh?

What part of ZERO passes defensed, ZERO picks makes this confusing?

Pool does make plays on the football in the air.
