Briefs: Dez Bryant injures back late in game; David Buehler struggles: 'No excuses'
Bryant injures back on attempted catch
One play marred wide receiver Dez Bryant's superb day.
In the fourth quarter, a leaping Bryant reached back over tumbling cornerback Terrell Thomas to grab an underthrown pass from quarterback Jon Kitna. Bryant, unable to brace himself, landed hard on his back on the artificial turf.
The play, which could have gone for 48 yards, was overruled after a challenge by the Giants. In addition to losing the catch, Bryant also lost an earring, which was later found by a stadium security officer, and emerged with a sore back. He gingerly walked out of the locker room.
"I hurt my back and [have] a little pain," Bryant said. "But I'm fine. I'll be OK."

DBs' shoving match a 'misunderstanding'
Cornerback Terence Newman and safety Gerald Sensabaugh got into a shoving match in the fourth quarter that forced the Cowboys to call a timeout to get things under control.
After the game, Newman said it was a "misunderstanding," and before the next play, both players patted each other on the back.
"Wouldn't be the first time it ever happened," Newman said, "and I guarantee at some point and time you'll see other teammates doing the same thing."
Said Sensabaugh: "We were acting. He's my man."
Coach Jason Garrett did not have a problem with the episode.
"Great competitors talking about what was going on out there, making sure they're on the same page with the call and wanting to get it right," Garrett said. "It's a great appreciation for each other. I just walked past them in the locker room, and they're about three inches from each other talking about the different plays in the game, so I think they'll be fine."

LB James gives game ball to Garrett
Coaches are usually the ones handing out game balls to reward strong performances. But the Cowboys pulled a reversal. Bradie James, one of the team's defensive captains, presented the game ball to interim coach Jason Garrett.
"He stepped in as the head guy and he kept us rolling," James said. "It was fitting for him and [defensive coordinator] Paul Pasqualoni really to get a game ball because they deserved it."

Kicker Buehler has tough game
Cowboys kicker David Buehler had three difficult moments in the win over the Giants.
He had a extra point attempt blocked in the first quarter, put a kickoff out of bounds in the second quarter and missed a 34-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.
The notorious winds that have made kicking an adventure at the Meadowlands were not present for this game.
Defensive lineman Barry Cofield blocked the conversion attempt. Buehler blamed himself for the poor kickoff and the missed field goal. He hooked the kickoff and left the field goal wide to the right.
The missed field goal came with 5:45 remaining and the Cowboys leading 33-20. Buehler had made eight of his previous nine attempts.
"No excuses," Buehler said. "You have to go out there and get it done. We lucked out by getting more ideal weather than the Meadowlands can give you. I'm glad that we got the win, but it's hard to enjoy it. It's hard to shrug it off."

Defenders kept away from Kitna
The Giants effectively put an end to the Cowboys' season three weeks ago when linebacker Michael Boley broke Tony Romo's left collarbone on a blitz.
On Sunday, Jon Kitna was sacked only once, a 3-yard loss after he was tripped by an offensive lineman. The Giants have knocked out five quarterbacks this season and had 24 sacks coming into the game.
"We feel like we did a good job," right guard Leonard Davis said. "Maybe we allowed a couple of pressures, but we'll just watch the film and make the corrections and go from there."

Power failure causes delay
A blown transformer caused a 15-minute delay during the third quarter.
According to Mark Lamping, chief executive officer of the New Meadowlands Stadium, the ballpark was without power for only about five seconds. A blown transformer triggered the switch to a second power line. A glitch developed in the second line, forcing a return to the first line.
"The system worked as designed," Lamping said. "It's not the first time that it's happened. The protocol within the stadium worked as designed."
Lamping said there were no security incidents related to the power outage. He refused to speculate on the possibility of sabotage.
The stadium will be the site of the Super Bowl in February 2014. The exact date has not been determined.

Coach Jason Garrett said Marion Barber did not violate a team rule regarding the dress code.
Players had to wear a sport coat, shirt, tie, slacks and dress shoes to and from the game. Upon the team's arrival at their Jersey City hotel, Barber was not in a tie and was wearing jeans. He wore a jacket and jeans as he exited the locker room Sunday.
Barber did not start for the first time since the end of the 2008 season, when he played with a toe injury. He finished with 47 yards, his second-biggest output of the season, on eight carries.

Good weekend gets even better for Jones
Jerry Jones did not arrive in New Jersey until Sunday morning after spending Saturday night watching Manny Pacquiao beat Antonio Margarito at Cowboys Stadium.
"I'm glad I got to see that fight," Jones said. "I tell you one thing, it makes you love it when you see them fight like that, be like that. ... Boy, I tell you what, in my last 24 hours I've seen a couple of good things - that fight and this game."

CB sets record with interception return
Two plays after replacing the injured Mike Jenkins, Bryan McCann put his name in the Cowboys record book.
He intercepted Eli Manning's pass in the end zone and returned it 101 yards for a touchdown. McCann, an Oklahoma 6A state champion in the 100 meters before playing at SMU, was never threatened as he sprinted the length of the field.
The touchdown gave the Cowboys a 16-3 lead with 7:34 left in the second quarter.
