Positives: Prototypical size for corner, tall with decent build and nice arm span. ... Shows good hands for the interception and can high-point the ball. ... Turns and runs with receivers well, showing good speed and the ability to maintain position. ... Plays in the slot at times, but is best on the outside.

Negatives: A better athlete than football player. ... Does not play as physically or aggressively as you'd like with his size. ... He does not press much and is only adequate coming up in run support or getting off receiver blocks. ... Marginal backpedal, and plays a bit high. ... Rough transition against smaller, quicker receivers.

Jason Garrett, in conf call w/media, says Brandon Carr does things that Cowboys aspire to on defense -- physicalness, press coverage.

Cowboys flew to KC to bring Brandon Carr back to Dallas to start the recruiting process. Garrett, Rob Ryan, Henderson Baker went to KC.

They spent alot already on Brandon Flowers. I guess they knew his price-tag was going to be this high.

They also signed Routt from the Raiders after he was released, to a much lesser deal than what Carr just got. They knew his price tag would be pretty high.

Carr received a $10 million signing bonus and is due $26.5 million guaranteed.

His base salaries are as follows:

2012: $1.2 million
2013: $14.3 million
2014: $7.5 million
2015: $8 million
2016: $9.1 million

So, 16.3M cap hit next year. No doubt they'll rework his contract and push more down the road.

But, as it stands. The cap cost of replacing Newman with Carr and adding in the penalty next season, Dallas has all but used every drop of dead money that was supposed to come off the books.
