It confuses nobody. Hasn't yet.
That's the idea behind it though, not to max-protect for the QB. We happen to use it in that role because we ignore the Oline.

You build a consistent, cohesive Oline and get a couple of nice TEs. Both don't have to be All-Pros. And the 2-TE package could be a beautiful thing.

They've invested plenty into the skill positions. They have more than many teams around the league in this area. They do not need another TE.
They don't need to re-sign Laurent. Who knows what's up with Miles? We can draft a receiver and a TE.
