The argument is and only ever was, this:

• Longevity - Bates' 15 years of service ties him with Ed Jones and Mark Tuinei for all-time years served.
• Character - Always outstanding, in all endeavors on and off the field.
• Changed the game - Opponents had to use valuable practice time to account for Bates in the kicking game - double and triple teaming wasn't uncommon but was to little effect. NFL expands All-Pro and Pro Bowl rosters adding special teams specialist.
• Knack for the ball - Very often coming up with the big play when needed most. Whether it be a sack on a blitz, a pick, or causing a fumble. A constant annoyance for the opponent, not unlike a gnat - But they could never do anything about it.

Call it a "terrible" argument if you will, but that's only because you can't counter it.

This is 100% fact: Teams had to double and sometimes even triple team him, had to account for him, and had to run scout teams for him in practice. Yes, they used valuable practice time working on stopping Bates.

They did the same with Tony Hill. But, mine is actual fact, not some made up shit. No one ever triple teamed Bates.

You get on proving he deserves in. Post stats. Post why, besides you said so and he "is a top 10 safety".

You haven't been paying attention. The headhunter's headhunter (opposing teams) was created to try to stop Bates. Did you not watch the video in the OP?

Here's a guy who was considered too slow, too small, wasn't drafted, who wound up being such a problem opponents had to run scout teams on him, had to use valuable practice time concerning themselves with him, and had to double and also yes, triple team him. Who kept coming up with big plays right when needed. We could use a couple of Billy Bates type guys today.

Look it Bill Bates is a nice player. Always loved him as a kid and remember there was always talk he'd be cut. I remember looking in the newspaper around cut time to make sure he want on the transaction wire. When you look at ROH players I certainly care more about production and overall impact for the team. Character and longevity mean nothing to me when deciding those honors. I question guys like Harvey Martin and Ed Jones not being in the ROH (and until recently Drew Pearson) never once did I say "Hey Bill Bates isn't in the ROH"

He definitely has contributed a crap ton of snaps. I think he has even been triple-teamed a few times, and changed how teams gameplan their middle rush on special teams.
