The Cowboys have figured out the zone blocking scheme, and it is one reason the running game has gotten better over the past month, right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau said.

“Up front, we have a better understanding of the zone, how to approach the blocking and techniques,” Bernadeau said. “It’s just, as the season progresses, you’re supposed to get better. Obviously, that’s what we’ve done.”

The Cowboys have put together four consecutive 100-yard rushing games: 134 against Green Bay, 198 against Chicago, 144 against Oakland and 107 against the New York Giants. They had only one in the first 10 games of the season.

The Cowboys are being criticized for not continuing to run the ball in the second half of the Green Bay loss. They ran seven times after halftime, when they had a 26-3 lead and had averaged 8.5 yards a carry.

Packers defensive tackle Ryan Pickett told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: “Oh, my God. It's the best zone scheme in the league. The last four weeks, nobody could stop it, their zone scheme, and they gave up on it. We're just happy they did. We were like, 'OK, we'll take it.’ ”

Bernadeau, asked if the Cowboys could have won Sunday’s game with the running attack, said, “There were a lot of things that we could have done differently that would have made us win the game. At the end of the day, you do the play that’s called and be ready to run out what’s called and execute it to the best of your ability.”

Bernadeau said the Cowboys ought to be able to go forward with the running game in the last two weeks.

“That’s the plan, you know?” he said. “Hopefully we just continue to get better. Our goal at the beginning of the season was to be able to move the ball on the ground and in the passing game. We feel like we’ve improved a lot. We just still have to get better. Hopefully we’ll go forward with that.”

In a season full of fail, one of the few guys who someone can say has exceeded expectations (granted they were very low for him) is Bernadeau. He's actually looked pretty damn good since he was put into the starting lineup.

The OL in general has definitely been a success story. the run and pass blocking have been as good as we have had since the 2009 season. Tyron Smith should be a probowler for years to come. Frederick looks like he may become a probowl fixture. Leary has had a pretty positive first season as a starter, and Free has pretty much reverted to 2009/2010 form.

That's why Gruden would be an excellent choice here. We won't have to change anything on defense or offense. Plus he can babysit Romo.

Feh, I'm still not satisfied with Free. I want another RT. He gets blown up to much. Maybe Waters can be talked into coming back next year too.

I'm not saying Free is the long term answer and cant be upgraded, but he has fared pretty well this year. He definitely hasn't been the suckmonster he was in 2011 and 2012.

We have a solid OL, consistency at the position, a strong running game and a defense that forces turnovers. We turn the ball over less than we almost ever have during Romo's stay here...and the record stays the same. Unreal.

Change Kiffin and put Marinelli in charge. I wouldn't even bject to keeping Callahan if Gruden came. Callahan was Gruden's OC in Oakland. I'd like to believe that Callahan would be more successful in running Gruden's system, than running Garrett's system.

What knee-jerks fail to grasp that it's not just Garrett's inability to manage a game, and make adjustments, but his enitre scheme is wrong for this team and players. That's why people that are calling to get rid of Romo are idiots. Let's just for one season see what Romo can do under a competant HC.

Likewise. And I'm not satisfied with Bernadeau and Leary either. We need to upgrade both those positions: Leary is at his ceiling, and really he should be a swing guard, to better extend his career; Bernadeua will eventually revert, as will Free.

And yet Romo has an eternity to throw most downs, and the run lanes seem to be getting bigger every week.

I think good coaches would come here, but they would insist on some contractual protection against Jerry's meddling

They do that, they don't get the job.

Hell, he ran off Dan Reeves who was a fricking consultant over some BS about punching a time clock...what makes you think he doesn't ensure himself every meddling right he can put in there.

There is a real reason he was visibly relieved when Parcells quit. He could relax and do what he wanted.

Whodathunk Frank Effing Pollack would end up being the best coach on this staff.

It also goes to show you Callahan and Wade's snot nosed kid failed last season.

Pollack came out of the Alex Gibbs zone running school. Get someone in here who uses that as the foundation and puts in more play action, you might have a better offense.

While I initially wasn't too keen on Kubiak with how he went down in Houston, I am warming up to the idea the more I think about it.

Yeah, I like Kubiak. He did a good job in Houston, despite not always having the best talent. The wheels just came off in the worse possible way.

I think he did ok, but I wouldnt say he did a good job.

They've had a pretty stacked team the past few seasons and didnt do shit. And this season was an utter disaster for them.

He might be a decent OC candidate, but I wouldnt want him for HC
