Cowboys bring back Danny McCray

Todd Archer, ESPN Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys dipped into their past to help their special teams by signing safety Danny McCray to a one-year deal, according to multiple sources.

McCray spent the first four years of his career with the Cowboys before joining the Chicago Bears last year.

He originally joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and led the team in special teams’ tackles his first two years while being considered the team’s best special teamer. In 2012 he was forced to start 10 games and the coaches credited him with 87 tackles.

With a change of special teams’ coaches in 2014, McCray elected to join former Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis with the Bears. He played in 15 games last season and had 10 special teams’ tackles.

The signing of McCray comes after free-agent deals affect possible compensatory picks for 2016. The Cowboys lost DeMarco Murray, Justin Durant, Bruce Carter, Dwayne Harris, Henry Melton and Jermey Parnell to unrestricted free agency, but signed Greg Hardy, Jasper Brinkley, Andrew Gachkar and Darren McFadden.

As it stands the Cowboys should receive multiple compensatory picks next year.

I wish we had a real safety. Hopefully we can keep Carr and Mo gets healthy so Bryon can go to FS.

I dont care if Mo is healthy, he isnt worth the time any longer.

He has a horrible knee injury, he isnt going to be better now than he was before. He wont make the final roster IMO unless he just cant be released (never practices), in which case he will go to IR.

Shows the backward thinking that hurt us for the past few years before 2014. The guy can not play at a NFL level. Waste of time signing.

By all accounts the rook was excelling at CB during the minicamp.

I'd rather have Byron, Scandrick, and Chris White (think that's the name of the Saints cb we signed ) as the top three corners and move Carr to safety.

Claiborne can carpool with Josh Brent for all I care. Fuck that guy.

Uh... Why'd we do that?

Because the Cowboys didn't want to resign Spillman and have an incredibly lazy front office.

This guy sucks so hard, but yet, he's now a direct backup to our already suspect starting safeties.

We is everyone getting their panties in a wad over a gunner on special teams? If he can't do it, cut him. Not a big deal.

I can't speak for everyone else, but it's disappointing that they couldn't find better than Danny McCray. Everybody already knows he's shitty.

It's like getting back with the same chick you broke up with last year, eventhough you know she won't blow you ever. Getting blown is important to you, but you think you can get past that because she's seen your dick and didn't laugh out loud.

Get it?
