Slow moving vehicles are typically required to move off the road when they are impeding traffic. It is really easy to dip into a driveway to let cars pass. I would rather do that than risk pissing the wrong asshole off.

In Texas they are classified as a vehicle and have to obey all of the traffic laws that apply. They must stay on the street and to the far right of the lane they are in. So, here, they are actually legally required to stay on the road.

I think they're just required to obey traffic laws if they are on the roadway. I don't think that you are required to ride a bike on the road though.

Well, no. I mean if you take it literally, there would be no trail riding. But, if there is a traffic lane available, they are required to be in it.

Got a Specialized a few years ago as a gift and really like it. Though I have been mountain biking in Arkansas and a couple of pretty cool places, I mostly much ride on the flat paved trails around here.

Years ago a buddy of mine got into road biking and I bought one, too. Didn't like riding those on the roads with yahoos driving way too close to you, so I got rid of it. This is a lot better and a pretty decent way to burn some calories.

My advice would be to not go to a sporting goods store (or for sure Walmart or Target) but to find a better "real" brand off Craigslist or somewhere. People all the time are giving up good bikes for cheap on there. And if you decide you don't like it and want to get rid of it, you won't lose much if any money.

He's not really soliciting advice. It's a thread topic. Youre nice though, you'll fit in here

(b) The driver of the overtaking vehicle is proceeding at a speed in conformity with ORS 811.105;
(c) The highway is a two directional, two-lane highway; and
(d) There is no clear lane for passing available to the driver of the overtaking vehicle.
(2) This section does not apply to the driver of a vehicle in a funeral procession.

That's fantastic. But, go back and read that I said Texas law not Oregon law.

Once you have done that, come back down here and STFU.

Now that that is out of the way, here is Texas traffic code regarding this issue:

Sec. 551.103. OPERATION ON ROADWAY. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person operating a bicycle on a roadway who is moving slower than the other traffic on the roadway shall ride as near as practicable to the right curb or edge of the roadway, unless:
(1) the person is passing another vehicle moving in the same direction;
(2) the person is preparing to turn left at an intersection or onto a private road or driveway;
(3) a condition on or of the roadway, including a fixed or moving object, parked or moving vehicle, pedestrian, animal, or surface hazard prevents the person from safely riding next to the right curb or edge of the roadway; or
(4) the person is operating a bicycle in an outside lane that is:
(A) less than 14 feet in width and does not have a designated bicycle lane adjacent to that lane; or
(B) too narrow for a bicycle and a motor vehicle to safely travel side by side.

That's fantastic. But, go back and read where I said it was typical, meaning not the case in every circumstance.

Once you have done that, come back down here and STFU.
