Anthony Spencer not fined for Tom Brady hit
October, 20, 2011

By Todd Archer
IRVING, Texas -- Anthony Spencer was not fined for his second-quarter roughing the passer penalty on New England quarterback Tom Brady Sunday.

“It’s disappointing in the fact that they called it and you think maybe it wasn’t a penalty since you didn’t get fined for it,” Spencer said.

It was a pivotal play, however, because New England would have faced third and 9 from the Dallas 48. Instead the Patriots had first down from the Cowboys 33 and scored a touchdown five plays later. Brady was out of the pocket on the play but Spencer did not hit him flagrantly.

As he fell to the ground, Brady immediately looked to referee Walt Coleman for a flag.

“You’ve got to be pretty price when hitting him,” said Spencer, who received a $12,500 fine last year for a hit on Philadelphia’s Michael Vick. “You really just can’t think about it. You try not to hit him in the heard or try to go low. Getting contact is the most important thing.”

It is the second time a Cowboy was penalized in a game but not fined. Cornerback Alan Ball was fined for unnecessary roughness for a hit on Washington wide receiver Santana Moss.

“I’ll do the same thing over,” Spencer said if he is in a similar position. “It’s just the way I play. Once you try to do that you can’t be thinking too much. You’ve just got to react.”

The league should turn around and fine the refs when it's clear they threw a bullshit flag. How else do you clean up the situation?

probably misquoted. You've got to be pretty precise when hitting him

It amazes me the misspellings you see in today's journalism. All people have to do is re-read what they wrote.

Refs couldn't let Brady and them go into OT. Had to give em that 15 yards.

Spencer running into the punter actually did more damage than can be expressed.

He hit Brady harder than he hit that punter...that was another kinda lame call...I've seen McBriar get jacked up alot worse than that and he never gets a call.

Of course not. McBriar has to be knocked unconscious for us to get that call. I don't know why Jerry and co. haven't complained about the officiating in our games. It sucks.

He should have been fined for that...by Garrett. Inexcusable. I would be alright if he didn't play Houdini for 4 out of 5 games.

when they showed the replay I felt like the punter saw him and leaned into him. Spencer needs to avoid that still but they shouldn't reward floppers.

It extended a drive was what I meant that they were actually having to punt on, the only thing that saved us on that one was the take away Newman had.

That's all he has to do. If you were to blow Brady a kiss, and his eyelash fluttered, they would throw a flag.

Jerry has complained and as a result, the refs had went after the Cowboys even moreso.

How does one lean on one leg? There was no reason for Spencer to keep going. He wasn't jumping or diving. He just walked into his leg.
