probably why we shouldn't pay any attention to what they actually did write down, or people's interpretations of those things. astute

When you take out all morality from education except what you deem appropriate, religion or not. You are left with kids that blow up schools, attack teachers, are undereducated due to no fear of failure, an entitlement populace... oh wait.

Picking apart a book that has for 1000's of years set in motion how the world views killing each other, stealing, revenge, jealous, slothfulness, etc etc and saying it should be ignored, because killing gay people and stoning people is completely looking over the rule of law it set forth by which most of the world still follows to an extent.

Back then laws had to be ruthless, otherwise you had someone taking everything from everyone else without repercussion or with insane behavior in retaliation. You had folks eating the wrong food, that would kill them or make them sick. You had folks getting sick for whole variety of reasons.

If you can get past the point that folks say God said so and get to the point where the 10 commandments actually make sense in their entirety to what should be every living soul on this planet then maybe you can get past trying to make everyone believe that the world just suddenly appeared out of nothing and that the big bang theory and creation theory have way more in common than not.

I'm not asking you to be a Christian, I'm not telling you either. But without the bible there would have been chaos in this world and to use the fact that there have been people through out time to use it or some other theology to kill a ton of people doesn't take away the good that it has done in the meantime. There would have just been another reason given for the senseless killing of whomever you feel sorry for.

Murderers are murderers regardless of who they blame, it was they that pulled the trigger, through the stone, drove drunk etc etc

The only person on a high horse seems to be the only guy that believes in nothing else, but what a scientist tells him, but only if it is what he believes to be true already.

Strange that the folks that want everyone to just get along, practice race separation, attack religion, attack just about anyone else that doesn't believe as they do. You are what you accuse so many others of. A bigot, racist, elitist.

That wasn't a copy paste, that was me sitting here looking at you in the light in which it should be looked at. A sad guy sitting behind a computer that loves to feel superior to other people because he doesn't believe in a fucking thing. To call you a liberal would be disingenuous to liberals. You don't even believe the drivel you espouse. You are just a troll.

ok then if it's not copypasta it is at least missing the point of this thread and Obama's words. Put simply, there is so much discord among Christians about the bible that how can you expect to use it as a source for governing non-Christians as well? I mean if you guys can't agree on what it means how can you have the audacity to demand that the rest of us respect your own personal interpretations of it in the formulation of our laws?

Sounds like your classic theistic society.

Laws had to be ruthless? Do you realize what a pathetic imp you make God out to be when you say things like that? As though he was constrained by the morality of the times? He HAD to write down rules for buying and selling slaves rather than outlawing slavery because he was too impotent to do otherwise? Give me a break.

Have you read the ten commandments? The first half are completely irrelevant, and really just have to do with the Jewish God's insecure vanity and maybe the second half have practical application and aren't redundant.

The "bible" didn't exist until about 300 AD brohame. Right around the time the church got pissed off and ushered in the dark ages and crusades. people existed just fine until then, we had some incredibly sophisticated societies living without the superstitious writings of goat-herders.

Scary to know there are people in the world that need an old outdated book to tell them that killing and stealing is wrong, lol.

We have laws because man-kind realizes we have to co-exist together to survive not because a talking burning bush says so.

Christians make up only 1/3rd of the world's population. I dare say civilization would have prevailed without it.
