Every GM has screwed up, but I am sick of Jerry's face. I would like a change. Some for sure. Others he has nothing to do with (think Johnny Manziel, when he was literally the only one in the room that wanted to draft him)
In 1998 Jones wanted to trade up for FSU DE Andre Wadsworth and offered two firsts and a second. Those picks ended up being Greg Ellis, Flozelle Adams and Ebenezer Ekuban. Ekuban was never really above average, but Ellis and Adams were both excellent players who had long term careers. Wadsworth was considered by most to be a "generational" type talent at DE even though he only had one big season in college. The Cards GM declined the trade and made the comment "do you think we're that stupid to just hand Dallas the Super Bowl?".
Wadsworth was never a good NFL player and was out of the league altogether after only 3 seasons.
I'm pretty sure we can find "666" on Jerry's body somewhere.Every GM has screwed up, but I am sick of Jerry's face. I would like a change.
Jerry Jones has been the official GM for 34 years!
Tom Landry was Head Coach for 29 years!
I'm against drafting a RB in round 1, but maybe a exception could be made for Jeanty. He continues to astound. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the playoffs against better ranked colleges.
Cam Skattebo. It's only one play, but on this particular play it was blocked pretty good. I like to see highlights of backs making it happen when there is no hole. How does he lower his shoulder, what's his leg drive like, Can he make people miss in tight spaces. Can he drag people.
I am not saying good or bad. All I'm saying is that particular run doesn't impress me. To be honest, I haven't seen him play at all. I've only read about him.
I'm only now starting to familiarize myself with the possibilities. A guy who is very early on my map for RD 1, who might be there at 12, is Malaki Starks S Georgia.
Dbair, what do you think of Starks? I think he'd help solidify that back end. I do like the idea of building front to back, but our secondary is a strength, except for the safety play, so maybe we can at least make one area kick ass.
Or maybe Kelvin Banks Jr. OT Texas. Maybe start him off at RG. He seems to lack the flexibility to be a tackle in the NFL, but he has really good size and strength. I think moves well to be a guard.
I think Zack Martin will retire and while Hofmann has played well, I don't know about him as a long term starter. Plus, we need to keep Dak protected.
Those are my very early targets at 12, but hopefully we'll be picking sooner.
Definitely go watch any of the multitude of season highlights on Jeanty. The guy runs with very impressive power but still shows really nifty feet and the breakaway speed as well. And while he didnt catch a ton of balls this yr, last yr he caught 43 with 5 tds. He's the complete package. I'd have no problem with us taking him in round one and he'd definitely make the entire team better. It's only one play, but on this particular play it was blocked pretty good. That all makes a lot of sense. It's just when I look at 12, and I start looking at how the players are ranked. I see WRs, TEs, G, and OT ranked in that range. Of those, I think an OT who can play G could be a possibility. I don't know yet if Guyton is a solution at LT.Definitely go watch any of the multitude of season highlights on Jeanty. Starks is a great DB. Has CB cover skills and some elite playmaking ability at times. Safety is a glaring, massive weakness for us so he'd definitely help shore that up. Drafting two safeties makes sense to me. I will say that while I love Starks, he has not been quite as good this yr as his previous two years IMO. Some of it may be due to mediocre CB play around him, and I'm not a huge fan of our defensive coordinator either. But Starks has missed making some plays he made in previous yrs and has taken a few bad angles as well. In the end though he is going to blow up the workouts at the combine and almost assuredly end up a top-15 pick.
I'd hate to see us burn another 1st rd pick on an OL this year, especially since it's a lock we'll be picking in the top-10/12 picks or so. If they ended up moving down for more picks, maybe OL is a more reasonable target. I like Hoffman (and Bass) and they also have the potential option of getting a new C and moving Beebe back to his natural position of G.
Smart move by him, unfortunately he plays for a dumbass coach.
I dont think he was ever going to make it to round three though.I was looking at him as a possibility in round 3 to at least improve on Rush. My gut tells me this will not be the last season Dak gets hurt.
But it is a smart move by him. He could work his way into round one and make millions more.
