hampton, martinez, both ohio state RBs, skattebo, etc

you dont need to pick a RB at 12

the problem at OT is far from solved
DL needs help inside and out
LB came on but are hurt
nobody on the roster can play Safety at an above average level

All true.

That said, if you think the guy (Jeanty) is a top 5-8 player in the draft (which I do, seems many of the draft guru people agree) and he is available at 12, it's a no brainer to pick him. We need people that can help move the ball and put points on the board just as much as we need those other areas you noted.

I also feel like if they pick Jeanty at 12 they'll feel compelled to use him extensively to justify the pick. If they draft someone later and also resign Dowdle, they'll be less likely to lean on the run game and instead try to feature Prescott and let him freelance too much. I want them to be less likely to rely on Prescott, as he has proven he cannot get the team over the hump and last yr he was horrible.

And I'm not one of those "it's Jeanty or nobody", but if Jeanty is there at 12 and they pass on him, there is no guarantee that the next wave of talented backs will be there at 44. Hampton almost assuredly will be gone and may well go in the 1st. Judkins is a carry the load guy and like Hampton, tested out athletically better than expected at the combine and he may well sneak into the 1st or go early 2nd. Henderson is no lock to be there at 44. Maybe Kaleb Johnson is, but he tested worse than expected. Then you have a wave of other guys after them, and while some of them are decent prospects there's no guarantee they improve the team that much either.

What do you do if Shaduer and Jeanty are both still there at 12?

Hmmmmmm

We have pick 44 this year and if we don't take a RB in round 1, almost assuredly may be taking one here.
