"you also are assuming he'll be good. What if he isn't? "Hunter looks like a great prospect and yes, his contract would be less than trying to re-sign Bland, but you also are assuming he'll be good. What if he isnt? What if he's the next Morris Claiborne, Pac Trash Jones or Bruce Pickens? or We know what Bland is, and he has uncanny playmaking skill.
You also weren't going to get Hunter outside of the top-5, and it was a longshot for us to ever get into those spots anyway.
Also, keep in mind that the beauty of having the best draft position possible is the flexibility it can create. Obviously, we are missing that Jimmy Johnson personality who is not afraid to wheel and deal, but at least in theory the more valuable your draft position is, the more you can get for it.Hunter looks like a great prospect and yes, his contract would be less than trying to re-sign Bland, but you also are assuming he'll be good. Bland has a two yr track record of being pretty good though. He's been good since we drafted him."you also are assuming he'll be good. What if he isn't? "
You're assuming Bland will continue to be good. What if he isn't?
And you're assuming Bland will stay healthy. What if he doesn't?
If I were a GM I'd have confidence in my scouting personnel, otherwise, why am I paying them? Fire them all.
It's a gamble either way.
Lock is definitely more talented. Has much better arm talent for sure.I'm not sure there is a true difference between the two. Lock might even be a bit better. Again, IMHO, the Giants are tanking.
Sure miss these Thanksgiving Day games... Every Emmitt turkey day TD:
He also has a recent record of being hurt...just sayin..Bland has a two yr track record of being pretty good though. He's been good since we drafted him.

Seemed pretty healthy last week.He also has a recent record of being hurt...just sayin..
Emmitt was one of a kind special. "Nifty" is the word Jimmy uses. It fits. And he was so low key and never flashy that still today he passes under the radar for praise or comparison. He's hardly ever mentioned. But really... There is no comparison.Smith was such a smart and instinctive runner. Even on that first play in the clip, Emmitt knows he is not going to run away from Green, so he stop-starts to get Green to skip a beat and miss the tackle.
It's like Turpin with that spin move the last game. It just can't be taught. Great coaching job Fassell.
I personally never saw such instincts in Zeke.
The point is that by drafting a player, you're obviously putting less stress on the cap and creating flexibility. There's value in that.Seemed pretty healthy last week.
He played in every game since we drafted him until this yr and had a flukey injury in camp that needed to be fixed. There's nothing that says he is "soft" or "injury prone' there.
all this would be far easier if they hadnt committed 240 mils to a middle of the pack at best QBThe point is that by drafting a player, you're obviously putting less stress on the cap and creating flexibility. There's value in that.
There's no reason to think that Bland won't want at least what Diggs is paid, if not more, because it's "his turn." So Diggs signed a 5 year deal for 97 million in 2023.
So it is not at all unreasonable to think Bland will want a 5 year deal for 105, maybe up to 120, million. Who knows, maybe more. How much will Quinn have in his coffers given Daniels will still be cheap?
Having both is ideal, but naturally there's a downside. So if a CB that you think can play is there, then draft him. If he totally sucks and pulls a Mazi or worse a Taco, well, you still have Bland.
But there are also other expensive positions where we could use a cheap player at like WR. RB is no longer a relatively expensive position, so I wouldn't draft RB unless we were wiped out at other positions like CB, WR, DE, OT. Those tend to be the pricier positions. So those would be my first round targets. I'd normally add QB in there, obviously.
Unfortunately, in this salary cap era, how much a player costs does matter.
