makes me wonder how far a team could go by foregoing the 60 million dollar QB and spreading 45-50 mill on the rest of the team, QB salaries seem debilitating to winning it all
Not many people would complain had Prescott been paid accordingly with his capabilities and where he truly ranks among NFL starters. Somewhere in the middle around 25 or 30 mils per yr was MORE than adequate.

Instead, this fucking moron owner/GM gave him 60 mils per yr and almost all the money guaranteed.

Even worse than actually giving Prescott the 60 mils per yr was the TIMING of it.

They didn't need to extend him. He was under contract this yr, in camp and expecting to suit up and play. The salary cap was set and we were under it. There was absolutely NO NEED WHATSOEVER to sign him a few hours before the opening kickoff on game one.

If they werent going to sign him to a new deal right before or right at the beginning of free agency so that we'd have had more cap flexibility, there was ZERO reason to do this. They should have just let him play out the season and worked on it next yr. He had a suckass season and then got hurt, he isnt worth half what they paid him.

Plus even more criminally irresponsible? We're 20 million UNDER the cap? Not even spending all we have!

Because the dipshit owner/GM waited until a few hours before kickoff of the season to do anything about 4's contract. By then all the quality free agents were done and gone.

He should have never gotten 60 mils per yr anyway, but had they at least done it back in Feb or March so they had flexibility to add a couple or three decent players you could have at least sort of understood it.

But they did it late, watched him suck dick and then get hurt. In the end we are more than overpaying him by double. He would have never approached anywhere near 50 or 60 mils on the open market in 2025 after years of postseason flops and a miserable 2024 regular season.

imagine if jerry and stevie let dak play out the year

if nothing else, it would have severely hampered any interest from other teams in signing a 32 yr old QB who just had the 3rd season ending injury of his career

Even if the opposite would have happened and he had a superstar season, won the MVP and we won a Super Bowl, he wasn't going to leave Dallas with any sort of legitimate offer from us. He's been here his whole career, he's in an incredibly favorable state for taxes.

There was just no reason to do this. Except yeah, the GM is an utter moron.
