That's why their red zone offense stinks this year. If we wanted fancy pass plays on 3rd and 1 Kellen Moore would still be here.
I didnt agree with it but it was actually a great call and set up perfectly...Rush completely bumbled the play, Ferg was wide open

'25 is in danger?
Man, its looking like another 2nd contract extreme overpay with poor to no return on investment.
The hits just keep on coming I tell ya.
He was not overpaid...dude was a legit allpro and earned his payday...he has been snakebit by the injury bug since, unfortunately

FWIW Spawn said yesterday that Diggs expected recovery time from this procedure was 8-9 months...maybe it impacts him for 2025 but we don't know yet

Odighizuwa has quietly had himself a really good season. He'd probably be my priority to re-sign of all of the Cowboys' unrestricted free agents in the off-season, even ahead of Rico, as good RB's are easier to find than good DT's.

The only way he "earns" the contract is IF he returns to pre injury form. If not, that is another sunk cost investment made on what has now become an injury prone player.

Come on dude. You cant "predict" injuries to guys.

He was due a contract extension and played his ass off to get it. He's one of the best ball hawk CB's this league has seen in a long time and turned into a true shutdown CB over time.

It sux he got injured. He didnt get injured on purpose.

He got paid what he was in line to get. He wasnt some underwhelming or overrated player than the Jones vastly overvalued (like Prescott, Jaylon Smith, Steele, Zeke and others)

He is a "tweener" in the grand scheme of basic Cowboy 2nd contract writing.
By that I mean the Joneses either write market setting guaranteed positional contracts based off past production like Tank & Zeke.
OR the even while injured we'll reward you with a second deal types like Jaylon, Gallup and Steele.
Diggs falls somewhere in between at this current moment. IF his onfield production never again matches his paycheck again he will unfortunately become a sunk cost investment.

And by the way I'm Roll Tide college wise so I naturally like most Bama players.

So essentially your logic is nobody should ever get an extension, because they could always get injured after the fact.

Ultimately Diggs situation is nothing like the others you mentioned. Tank (who is an exceptional player and busts his ass every single play) Jaylon, Gallup and Steele were all coming off significant injuries at some point (some right before the contracts). Zeke's play warranted a contract extension, but not when they gave it to him (they did it with 2 yrs left on his deal). Diggs had been completely healthy and an absolute all-pro, he was the league's elite playmaker at CB. He was due for a contract extension and earned it. He got injured after the fact.

You can't predict injuries. In Diggs case he tore his ACL in practice.

I don't think a team can build a consistent winner without keeping at least some (if not most) of it's best, most proven players. You arnt going to get bargains in free agency by signing other teams' guys, and that means you are under immense pressure to basically nail every draft pick to churn the guys you lose. Maybe some team will try it some day and we'll get to see, but I don't think it's possible.

Yeah, regardless on where you stand on the merits of past 2nd contracts the Cowboys have given, my point on Trevon Diggs situation is strictly from a return on investment perspective. The expected threads to follow concerning Diggs if his 2025 is truly in question will go something like "Since signing his 2nd contract Trevon Diggs has missed _____ out of a possible ____ games."
The player's greatest ability is availability. That's all I'm saying. Sad but true.

But... They ain't a whole heckuva lotta guys on the planet who can do this. Yeah he ain't Mahomes or Allen but he's gonna have a fuckin job as a quality QB. Cut him some slack.

makes me wonder how far a team could go by foregoing the 60 million dollar QB and spreading 45-50 mill on the rest of the team, QB salaries seem debilitating to winning it all
