Every rule that's subjective and a "judgement call" needs to be reviewable or needs to go. If NY agrees with the flag fine but let's run it by more than one person. The variability you're seeing is because these rules rely on the "judgement" of the one pulling the flag and it's not objective. So it's not consistent.

But this whine, this bullshit that, "they've pussified the game soon it'll be touch football" is demonstrably false. Again, if it's assault and bloodsport they're after, they have MMA there are four really good leagues.
Its 100% been pussified.

It's not whining when it is clearly true.

And how is it even possible to overprotect the quarterback? They're still getting hurt. It hurts the quality of play when you have a bunch of star quarterbacks injured.

League lost huge lawsuit over concussions and their lifelong consequences. So they've outlawed the weaponization of the headgear. Also taken the head and neck off the "fair game" list. Made illegal the intentional crashing of full body weight. Body slamming. You know, thuggery assault.

You should be rejoicing.

You're completely full of shit dude.

Everybody with a functioning set of eyes and spends anytime reading the new rules and watching how the game itself is played knows it.

There's hardly any full contact practice (offseason, training camp or during the season). Tackling has been altered. Penalty flags galore fly for "roughing the QB" when the guy is hardly touched. Players are flagged for hitting "defenseless" receivers left and right, even when the hit itself is completely clean. The Targeting rule in college football is complete BS more often than not.

The game sux compared to what it was from the 70's through the 90's. The product on the field is poor. The play is sloppy. Officials have far too great of an impact and many of these rules are complete garbage.

But somehow the league continues to thrive especially in comparison to MLB and NBA.

You're far in the minority and the numbers reflect that. The game is better now at all levels since High Schoolers are being taught the safer ways now as well. It's not going away. And your complaints will ease as everyone gets used to the new way of things and that's everyone from trainers players coaches refs. Everyone. You want them to be perfect immediately and that's unreasonable.

And nobody's gonna miss the grouchy old duffer who's not even in the desired demographic anymore anyway. It's gonna move on and continue to thrive, without you.

We can agree to disagree. The product on the field, compared to what we saw for two or three decades is trash.

I played a lot of football dude, was taught to use headgear as a weapon, was taught the cheap shots. Never did any of it. My dad taught me this is a gentleman's game to be played with honor, learn and utilize correct techniques.

This is what's slowly happening now. And the game WILL be better for it because you're gonna have more sure tackling since we're no longer going for the big hit, we're no longer looking to hurt anyone and instead we're becoming mindful of our actions.

It's still a collision sport and people are still getting hurt. Can you explain that? But it's usually not intended now. Football of the last 70 years pretty much since thermoplastics entered the picture as equipment gear has been sloppy, overly violent and not nearly as good of a product as what we're starting to see. Give it time - we're trying to correct and erase generational sloppy, cheapshot assault thuggery.

I don't know anyone (myself included) that was ever taught to use headgear as a "weapon" or focus on "cheap shots"

You didn't have the neck conditioning drills where a teammate held your head while you kept your neck stiff as possible? And you'd trade off? This is due to teaching the use of headgear. They worried about neck injuries not head injury. You never had a coach yell "git yer HEAD in there when ya hit 'em!"

No coaches ever taught you ear-holing blindsiding spearing and many other assault actions?

It happens because it's taught. Starting now, none of it is taught anymore and eventually it will all be gone like the dinosaurs who miss it.
