Taking on the personality of the aggressive D didn't hurt their careers. Impossible to measure the effect of that. Plus you had maybe ONE 1st round pick in that "great wall" o-line? They were a bunch who way overachieved for what they were. Tex Schramm said Newton was "fat and lazy" for example. Jimmy's theory proves out quite a lot if you're watching for it.
Read his new book yet?
They had no 1st rd pick OL's, Big E and Stepnoski were 3rd rd picks. Jimmy didnt draft Larry Allen (came in 1994) and he was the highest of the bunch in the 2nd. The unit was nasty as hell, worked their asses off and were EXTREMELY well coached by Tony Wise and then Hudson Houck.
The DL wasnt exactly loaded with early round picks either. They took Russell Maryland #1 overall (only because Rocket Ismail said he wanted too much money and went to Canada). Johnson traded for Tony Casillas (who was #2 overall by Atlanta but was shipped out for not too much after wanting bookoos of money from Atl and "retiring"), Tolbert was a 4th rd pick. Jimmie Jones was a 3rd rd pick, Leon Lett was a 7th he didnt draft Jim Jeffcoat or Chad Hennings, he traded for Charles Haley and in fact didnt draft a SINGLE DL in 1992 or 1993.
