A few of the guys I like for us tonight (no particular order for each)

QB- I like Carson Strong but doubt they'd take him unless he somehow slips to tomorrow. Apparently they like EJ Perry from Brown who's a day three guy too

RB- none tonight, but think we might take one tomorrow

WR- Christian Watson, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert, Khalil Shakir

TE- Jelani Woods, Charlie Kolar, Cade Otton (Cole Turner and Daniel Bellinger might be more day three guys but like them too)

OL- even though we took Smith last night, doubling up on OL with another one is an idea I like. The two kids from Central Michigan are interesting, also like Derek Kinnard, Sean Rhyan, Jamaree Salyer & Ed Ingram. Reportedly the team loves Nebraska C Cameron Jurgens. If the plan for Smith is to eventually mvoe to LT, then getting another interior OL prospect seems smart to me. I think we've seen McGovern can't play so they need to upgrade the depth and have options if Smith moves to LT down the road, or Martin retires.

DE/pass rushers: Boye Mafe, Arnold Ebeketie & Sam Williams (some off field red flags so will be interesting tos ee if they'd take him, they supposedly love him)

DT- Travis Jones, Phidarian Mathis, like John Ridgeway but he might be a 4th rd guy. All these guys are more 1T guys and we don't have a true 1T guy that is really stout vs the run.

LB- Love Channing Tindall, Nakobe Dean would be a nice get, Chad Muma. All these guys could be 3 down LB's and

S- Jaquan Brisker and Jalen Pitre

CB- Tariq Wooten

I gotta say this and I'm no expert by any stretch. Just a guy that's seen the kind of penalties called in the NFL on a routine basis. Maybe it's just me, but in a lot of these "highlight" reals, I watch the kid and think....flag.....flag.....flag.....
Its definitely the one big concern with him, he seems to like rag dolling/putting his opponents into the ground and some of that will easily get flagged (especially in regards to us, where it seems refs have different standards for holding on our guys vs other teams)

But I love the way he tries to finish people off and he does seem to get consistent movement, also easily gets to the 2nd level in a lot of these clips.

In the spirit of the above noting the guys I kind of like, here's a few I would be pretty pissed about:

1) David Ojabo: He was a guy who seemed like a 1st rd lock (even top half of the 1st rd by some) and then blew out his achilles at the Michigan proday. I didn't really like the guy before the injury (he was completely invisible against UGA in the playoff game, didnt even net a tackle let alone any pressure or QB hits) but HATE him for us now. I really hope someone else takes him before we pick, because I see the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb talking themselves into another 2nd round mega gamble "well the guy was gonna be a top-15 pick and we just couldnt pass on tyat value, even though he wont play anytime this year" If we had had a huge free agency or had a bunch of extra day two picks, maybe you think about it. But we need healthy guys who can contribute now, not injury risks who might not ever pan out because of the type of injury he had.

2) RB- I like some of the players themselves, but with only two picks today using one on a 3rd string RB seems pretty foolish. Now if they were going to flip Pollard for a draft pick/s then I might feel differently. And unless Zeke has a pretty big 2022 he is probably gone after the season, so I definitely think they might take one this weekend. But like I said, seems like this is something they need to wait til tomorrow on

3) WR John Metchie- like him more as a player than Ojabo, but he has a significant injury concern as well. If we had an extra pick tonight then taking him wouldnt be terrible, but with only two picks I wouldnt use one on this guy knowing he may not play much (if any) this year. Also am not a big fan of any of those ultra small guys at this position, especially with a pick tonight.

Was listening to Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin on NFL Radio, they talked about our draft a little bit.

They both like Smith and both believed he was going in round one all along. Kirwin said maybe you could make a case for early day two, but he had no issue with the pick. Miller went onto say he had spoken to a number of league OL coaches who loved Smith and he also named former OL coach Paul Alexander, who he said reminded him of Lael Collins coming out of LSU.

A Cowboys fan called in trashing the pick and you could tell neither of these guys agreed, the caller said Philbon sucked as an OL coach, Miller said Philbon is an "excellent OL coach" and Kirwin agreed (for those that dont remember, Miller played in the league for sometime and Kirwin is a former coach, long time scout and personnel dept guy) The caller then mentioned Connor Williams/McGovern as an example of Philbon sucking and Miller/Kirwin said "Philbon never picked those guys, then benched Williams (and then McGovern) and they made no effort to keep Williams"

It seemed they were definitely insinuating that the OL struggles had more to do with personnel that didnt fit what Philbon/McCarthy wanted than lack of coaching ability.

Another reach... This is starting to feel like the infamous "backup draft." Jerruh and spawn acting like we have a pat hand.

Wow no comments at all about our picks tonight?

I'm pretty pleased with the two guys we got. Williams had the off field thing he got flagged on but I believe ultimately the sexual assault charges were dropped and then completely debunked. Not sure if there was anything else going on with him off field other than that, but on the field the kid had a really strong career, improved every season and got named 1st team all SEC this past year. 30+ career sacks including 12.5 this past yr, has a penchant for strip sacks too. Super quick and outstanding sub 4.5 speed.

Loved Jalen Tolbert, silky smooth WR with good top end speed and large hands. Great route runner. Played for S Alabama but was super productive and when he played against Southern Miss in 2020 he had 6/169/2tds, and last yr vs Tennessee he had 7/143/1td, so he wasnt out of place against higher level comp.

So, basically you don't know shit about these guys either then right?

These first two nights have seen more "interesting" picks from teams pretty much league wide then in probably any year I can remember. A lot of teams drafted guys that some of the draft mags had rated as middle to late rd picks fairly early. Some of the draft guru people who do the scouting stuff for a living had predicted that this yr, that there was going to be a ton of discrepancy between virtually every teams boards.

Williams was tremendously productive in the SEC (1st team all conference) and then had a blow it up workout. Yes, he had the red flag for a sexual assault charge 2+ years ago, but the charges were dropped completely and the story was reportedly debunked. It doesn't seem he has had any issues since.

Loved the Tolbert pick, kid is really smooth and makes a lot of plays downfield. Crisp routes and big hands, good (not great) straight line speed)

Final Tony Pauline rankings for these two guys were 57 for Tolbert and 67 for Williams. Almost everyone had both these guys rated in the 2nd or 3rd rd, so not sure where you got your "reach" stuff again, other than that you don't spend anytime looking at this stuff beforehand and if you didn't see the guys in the NCAA championship game it seems you know almost nothing about them. I don't claim to be any type of expert on this, but I do dive into this stuff pretty good every year and have since the mid late 80's. I read a ton of stuff online and still buy two or three of the draft review guides.

Yes there were. This is why you don't need multiple threads on the same topic. I've merged them.
Well thanks meathead, I liked having separate threads because the first one was the offseason draft stuff with news and rankings, all- star game notes etc etc whereas the one I started this week was more for the actual coverage. Now you've dumped them all together and make it hard for all of us to find all the draft tidbits, workout info, news on various prospects etc etc

Keep up the good work
