This is classic 20-20 hindsight. This reminds me of the "warnings" US intelligence supposedly had about 9/11 when they only had vague unactionable intelligence.

This virus is not the blame of the Trump administration. The state department gets intelligence from countries all over the world that may or may not be meaningful. Furthermore, what we do not know is if US intelligence took some covert action that we will never learn about. The question I have is, what was the US supposed to do about this? Chinese scientists complain about understaffing and the US can do what about that? If China was haphazard in handling a deadly virus, that is China's fault.

Let's be very clear. When people in China began to get sick, China denied CDC scientists access to Wuhan to help determine what was causing the illness. They denied human-to-human transmission until late January when it became obvious they were wrong. To this day we are still uncertain when the outbreak began.

For an entire year China has lied about this virus, how many people are sick and dying in their own country and how this virus originated. Blaming the Trump administration for ignoring a single cable making a request to help a Chinese bioweapons lab do their work is ludicrous and doing the work of the Chinese propaganda ministry.

The mask mandates are beyond ridiculous at this point. I don't go to many crowded places other than the local stores and I live on the NJ border with NY and I do most of my shopping in NY. To put things in perspective NY state is probably the hardest hit state in the country right now with over 9,000 new cases yesterday alone. Here are my observations which are limited but consistent every time I've been out for months.

1. Everyone wears masks but practically no one social distances anymore. Every time I shop at least 2 or 3 people reach over me or around me to grab something off the shelf. I really don't give a rats tail one way or the other, but this is probably about the same as before the pandemic. Masks are useless without social distancing. So why wear them?

2. About 50% of the people follow the arrows in the grocery stores. The arrows are intended to get everyone flowing in the same direction so there is no crossing paths, blocking aisles, or creating other obstructions that would making it difficult for people to social distance. The store make periodic announcements but no one is paying attention.

3. Parking lots are littered with masks, rubber gloves, and various disinfectant wipes. Gross. Again, no amount of announcements convinces people to dispose of their used medical equipment appropriately.

4. People don't care about COVID-19 anymore. Biden can go on TV and talk all he wants about how we need to work together so we can party in July, but I suspect people are planning on partying in July regardless of what Biden has to say. People have COVID exhaustion and want to get back to normal. They are going to do it with or without permission. Even some of the "Karens" from last spring are tired of it.

5. Half the people I know have either gotten their vaccine or on waiting on line to get their second shot. The other half haven't tried, are not going to try and probably will never get the vaccine. The people who got the shot did it because they want to get back to normal as soon as possible. The people who will not get the shots are never going to get the shots and think we should get back to normal anyway. I am not taking sides. It is just my observation.

6. Of the people who are not willing to get the vaccine, most, I think, have been confused by all sorts of media reports about allergic reactions, people dying in Norway, people dying here, etc. The news is confusing them. I have to agree. Everyone has an agenda and the clarity of reports has been lacking since the shots were first announced. People do not know the difference between the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine. (Wait till the find out about the J&J vaccine!) What is needed is someone with some credibility left has to come out and make some very clear statements about the vaccines and acknowledge the facts.

One conclusion I can draw from this. Biden says we will have enough doses of vaccines for every person in America by May. IMO, that means about half those doses paid for with taxpayer funding, will spoil and go to waste.

7. We have enough data now from every states to determine which approaches to dealing with the virus were most successful. The answer is none were successful at all. The worst part is "flatten the curve" became a battle to achieve 0 new cases, or close to it.

8. We have reached the beginning of herd immunity. Forget what Fauci says. We are vaccinating more than 1 million people per day, that is 3 times as many as the highest number of new cases in any day. The vaccine is spreading much faster now than COVID-19. The virus is beginning to find it more and more difficult to find new targets to infect. It will begin to die out but it is not an abrupt process. It is like a fire in the fire place. It will smolder for a while but the heat from the fireplace is constantly diminishing. Outbreaks in areas that were never hit hard are possible still, but the peaks will get lower and lower until they level off near zero. The number of cases will never get to zero btw. We will see COVID and it's variants forever or until our descendants figure out how to target and wipe out such viruses. Politicians will claim victory, and some will claim credit, but the reality is a virus is like a shooting star. There is no stopping it but eventually it burns itself out.

9. I am bored so I write long posts about this shit. I can't wait until the NFL draft!

Just quit complying with all the bullshit. I have not let this virus stop me from doing one single thing I wanted to do or going to a place I wanted to go. My wife and I have since the original "15 days to stop the spread" lock-down have shopped, ate at restaurants, visited family/friends, basically anything and everything. Hell we even quit complying with the stupid ass mask mandate almost a month before it was lifted in Texas. I have been to dozens and dozens of stores and restaurants without a mask and the most anyone has said to me is asking me if I wanted a mask and that was even when the stupid mandate was lifted.

Somewhat funny story. Back in 2009, I held a conference of about 20 people in my company from around the world. It was supposed to be 4 days. The H1N1 flu was raging at the time but no one was really talking about it or taking precautions. Day 1 of the conference went well. But the morning of day 2 I woke up sick as a dog. First I was so exhausted I couldn't get out of bed. I had aches and pains all over and a little cough, which worsened over the next few days. I slept for 3 days! Needless to say, I called in sick and missed my own conference. But by the end of the week, almost every person who attended the conference on day 1 came down with the flu which they must have caught from me!

I am not worried about the virus. I like the odds of my survival if I get sick, even with my diabetes and history of cancer. I just don't want to pass it on to any of my loved ones. I already have a reputation in some quarters!

The number of seriously ill and critical patients with COVID has dropped about 70% now since the beginning of January. Fauci is full of horse manure. Many areas of the country have reached herd immunity. It is time to get the country going again. Instead of passing $2 trillion in wasteful spending bills that will hurt more than help the economy, we need to get people back to work. It is not just the idea of making money again to pay bills, it is the return to normalcy to people are comfortable doing all the things they did before the pandemic. That is the only way to fix what is broken in the economy.

Good luck. I certainly hope the vaccines turn out to be safe but I do not trust something that has so little testing. They do not have clue if there ill be any long tern negative affects from it. Both of my kids (both grown) got the vaccine despite my objections. My daughter got really sick from it for a few days for both the first and second shots. She had the virus in June which was not nearly as bad as the vaccine for her. My son got the second round of the vaccine yesterday and was not feeling well late yesterday. I have not heard from him today to see how he is feeling. My daughter got the vaccines because she is in school to becomes Physicians Assistant and she will be starting her clinical part in June and figured many places where she will have to go for the year long clinical part will require her to be vaccinated. My son got it because he travels a lot for work. My wife and I will not be getting the vaccines.

I am in no rush to get it, but even if I wanted to appointments are very hard to come by in NJ. People tell me to keep trying, go on the websites every day, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, right. I am going to spend my days trying to make an appointment to get a shot I don't really want! For what? The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are new and have only been tested on a limited basis. They manipulate your DNA to produce anti-bodies. How do we know they won't cause cancer in 10 years? Remember, the head of the EPA said there was no danger from the smoke and fumes at ground zero after 9/11. After a few years hundreds of people have gotten cancer and other diseases from working at the site. Those that worked at the site even for short periods were advised to go for regular checkups to make sure any diseases the may have contracted for their volunteer work are caught early.

The J&J shot is one shot and uses dead cold virus particles to fool your body into producing antibodies. But it also uses an RNA mechanism to get those cold virus particles into your cells. It is probably more safe than the other two over time, but still. Do I need this? This vaccine was approved on an emergency basis. Does that mean it would not have been approved if the government did not deem coronavirus an emergency? If you are worried about me giving you coronavirus, then get the shot to protect yourself!

On top of that they are telling people who have already been sick to get the vaccine. Why? They claim immunity from the virus may not last but now studies are showing that is not true. Immunity probably lasts as long as the immunity you get from the vaccines. Only about .27% of people who had corona are getting it a second time and in almost every case it is a much more mild infection. We are wasting vaccine doses on people who do not need the vaccine.

If getting the shot meant I could stop wearing masks, businesses would open, and everything would go back to normal then I might comply and get a shot for the sake of the country, but no one is promising that even if 100% of the people get vaccinated. Biden hedged on this and Fauci is hedging on it too.

It is my life. Let me risk it the way I choose.
