It's not that Crawford is a bad player. He busts his ass and is decent guy to have on the team, plus he can play just about anywhere on the DL.

The issue is we vastly overpaid him based on a hunch, a hunch that he'd be a dominant 3T and he has never been that.

Somebody had that same hunch Mo Claiborne would be a shut down CB.

Eh, plenty of teams thought that when he was drafted. He was the #1 rated defensive player on a lot of teams boards.

it wasn't like 31 other teams had 5th rd pick grades on him and we picked him in the top-10

Except he didnt test out as an elite athlete before the draft, and he wasnt known for creating turn overs at LSU.

Man, that brings back some great memories. That was the first year they won the SB. Staubach had not yet taken over the starting job. Besides Bullet Bob Hayes busting Gnat coverage, loved hearing the original announcing crew calling the play. Remember when Monday Night Football was an event? Now it is just an after thought with shit games half the time.
This was the period when Landry would rotate Staubach and Morton during games. Staubach actually played the majority of the game.

By the way, this was the last Cowboys game at the Cotton Bowl before they moved to the newly built Texas Stadium.

What?

He had 11 picks his last two years and his ball skills were considered extremely strong.

I know it wont happen, but this is the kind of bold move that could help put us over the top for 2017 and beyond. They could move Collins over to the 1T spot and play him next to Donald and you'd have quite the interior pass rush.

I had also suggested they look at DE Robert Quinn.

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is expected to miss Sunday's season opener against the Indianapolis Colts as he continues his prolonged holdout, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Donald has not shown up throughout the Rams' training camp and preseason, racking up approximately $1.4 million in fines. If he doesn't report before Sunday's 1:05 p.m. PT kickoff at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, he will lose one game check from a contract that will pay him a base salary of $1.8 million.

Tanzel Smart, a rookie sixth-round pick, is expected to take Donald's spot as the starting 3-technique lineman, lining up between the left guard and the left tackle in base 3-4 sets.

Both sides have made little progress on a contract extension for Donald that could eventually make him the game's highest-paid defensive player.

Donald, 26, was a first-round pick in 2014 and is still bound to the contract he signed as a rookie. He is a two-time All-Pro. Heading into this season, Pro Football Focus considered him the NFL's best player, regardless of position.

Cowboys offensive lineman Byron Bell picked up the remaining $150,000 of his roster bonus by making the weight clause in his contract. Bell earned $450,000 total for checking in at 320 pounds at three different times from minicamp to the start of training camp and the start of the regular season.

I would think that if this trade is going to happen that Maliek Collins would be part of the deal.

Soooooooooooooooo Goodell, will there be an exhaustive investigation into this? (No, there wont be, and Goodell also commented that Bennett represents "the best of the NFL")

Vegas PD union asks NFL to investigate Bennett's 'false allegations'

The union for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has requested the NFL investigate what it calls "obvious false allegations" by Michael Bennett against two of its officers concerning an Aug. 26 incident.

In a letter sent to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday and obtained by CBS' Vanessa Murphy, the police union also expressed disapproval of Bennett's anthem protest.

"While the NFL may condone Bennett's disrespect for our American flag, and everything it symbolizes, we hope the league will not ignore Bennett's false accusations against our police officers," wrote union president Steve Grammas.

The union denied Bennett's notion that he was racially profiled by the officers after it sounded like shots were fired near his hotel, pointing to the Seattle Seahawks defensive end's "unusual and suspicious behavior."

The union says officers witnessed Bennett hiding behind a slot machine in a casino, which they'd been called to due to reports of an active shooter, before running out of the building and leaping over a 4-foot barrier wall.

"Our officers did not detain Bennett because he was 'a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time,'" wrote Grammas.
Bennett said Wednesday that the officers used excessive force and threatened to "blow (his) f------ head off" before ultimately releasing him.

Cowboys safety Jeff Heath welcomes all challengers, doubters
By Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Strong safety Jeff Heath might as well have a target on his back rather than No. 38 emblazoned on his jersey when Dallas Cowboys take the field in Sunday's season opener against the New York Giants.

It's his first official start in place of the departed Barry Church.

And while his coaches and teammates believe in his abilities, his pedigree as a primarily a special teams player after making the team as an undrafted free agent from tiny Saginaw Valley State in 2013, some Cowboys fans are certainly leery.

There is no question Giants quarterback Eli Manning and vaunted receiver corps of Odell Beckham and Brandon Marshall will certainly look to exploit the unproven neophyte.

So Heath is balancing the excitement of finally getting his chance to start with the burning desire to prove people wrong.

"Absolutely man," Heath quickly responded with when asked if he felt he had something to prove Sunday. "I'm not dumb. I know the general feelings are about me as a player. I don't share those same feelings. And my teammates don't and the coaches don't and the organization doesn't. I don't want to say my main goal is to prove people wrong. But I like to have that edge. It keeps me motivated. It keeps me grounded. I like that."

But there is no question that he is savoring the moment of being able to walk out on the field with the starting lineup. When he joined the Cowboys in 2013, he was the seventh safety on the depth chart going into training camp before coming out of nowhere to make the team.

He has improved and grown, while becoming one of the team's best special team players.

So Church's departure in free agency opened a door for him that he's held on to throughout the off-season and training camp, despite the presence of rookie draft picks, veterans holdovers with drafted pedigrees and free agent signees.

He feels a sense of accomplishment to go along with that excitement but no complacency

"It's everybody's goal in my opinion to have a starting role," Heath said. "You always want your role to be bigger no matter what it is. So I'm super excited. But it's important to channel that excitement. You can burn yourself out if you think about it too much. I have to take it one day at a time and focus on practice each day. The best way to be confident and play good is to prepare the right way. That's my focus right now.

I'd go all in Donald. The reason I dont see it happening is they have to pay Zack Martin, and they have to pay Dak in two years. Donald would wreck the cap but he would be the second difference maker on defense besides Sean Lee this defense desperately needs. Nothing trumps defensive pressure up the middle.

Towel huh? In Texas we call that a shirt.
NBC can't hide the large amount of these shirts being worn by the crowd, they dot every section of the stands. Haven't mentioned them or shown them yet but you can see the color of the shirt, all over the stadium.

Nornally you see in NFL game broadcasts, close-ups of crowd sections. Not tonight.

There was a time when sports broadcasting had some credibility, stuff like this would be shown and talked about. Now the networks are just lapdogs for the commissioner and the league overall.
