Assuming the 'Boys lose badly today (solid assumption) and then were to turn around and lose next week, how many of you would be open to them starting a fire-sale of the team before the trade deadline? If so, who would you do away with? Here's mine:
Romo would be at the top of the list, but Jones blew it by not dealing him before giving him this mega extension. So he isn't a possibility.
On offense I'd trade Miles Austin for whatever I could get, even if it was just Midswat's coffee table at this point. He has to be one of the more useless players on the team. There are still several teams who need a WR, maybe he will be healthy enough in a week or two to pass somebody's physical. I'd think we could get a 6th for him.
I would probably see what I could get for Doug Free, not because he is playing bad because he isn't. He's actually been one of the more consistent players we've had this year. But several teams have lost OT's and might overpay to get a proven starter. Parnell hasn't been anywhere near as good as Free, but at 2-4 and the team obviously going nowhere, having another quality pick in 2014 would outweigh the negatives of Parnell being out there.
I'd definitely see what I could get for Phillip Tanner, even if it were just a conditional 7th rd pick. Not sure anyone else is tradeable either because of contract (ie, Witten), playing ability (ie- Escobar) or because they are actually a good player worth building around (ie- Dez, Tyron Smith, Frederick, Murray)
The story is a little different on defense. Claiborne and Carter have arguably been the two biggest disappointments on the team. Both are high draft picks with tons of physical talent, and both players have now been benched because of poor/mediocre play. If someone would give us a 2nd for Claiborne, I'd be highly tempted to jump on it. That team would be gambling that he has struggled because of injury and scheme change, but everyone had this guy rated as a top-5/10 pick just a year ago. I do believe there'd be a market. Perhaps a change of scenery/scheme is what he needs. Carter would have seem to have been taylor-made for this scheme, but he's now been benched too. Teams saw how good he was in the 3-4 last yr prior to injury, and might be willing to pay something decent for a young LB with a ton of athletic skill. I think we could get a 3rd for him.
I would dump Ratliff in a NY minute, the problem is he isn't healthy and might not be able to prove his health before the deadline. Still, if someone would risk a 6th or 7th to take him, I'd do it.
The other guy there might be a market for is Scandrick. He's played well and has manageable cap numbers, and is still a relatively young player. It would leave us paper thin at CB (especially if they had also moved Claiborne) but they could throw Webb out there and live/die with it for the rest of the yr, or they could look for some cheap free agent help (Sterling Moore is still available I believe)
