Courtesy of USA Today, and bad news for Cowboys: The defending Super Bowl champs have won their home opener in Week 1 for the past 12 years.

Not really sure how anyone can really say this. On paper the team is definitely improved, and we were very close to getting in the postseason last year.

After the draft and free agency, every team is better "on paper." As Norm noted on his show, we were a couple of plays away from 6-10 last year, and absolutely feasted on bad QBs. We won't have the same luxury in 2012. More ominously, the Gmen sacked Romo six times in that last game, while we've only sacked Manning four times in the last six games.

Didn't the Giants play the same schedule, save for two games? Thus, feasting on bad QB's as well?

mean... to each their own, but I don't see how a fan can root for a team to the point where they spent copious amounts of time on a fan forum if they aren't excited/optomistic about the coming season.

I can't speak for others but for me it's Jerry Jones. In the end, I know his decision making will bring us down. I'd love to root for the team like I did when I was a kid but that man has made me doubt most moves we make. The environment he has created in this organization is one where there is no real accountability, it's about being a star, we lack mental toughness, and as Skip Bayless would say, the "clutch gene". When he is no longer connected in any way to personnel moves I think some of the optimism will come back.

I am all for Jerry bashing but after 16 years he is bound to have things fall in place. Just the law of averages. I believe i am a realist (or at least i try to be). Based on what i have seen from the offseason and preseason the starting offense and defense will be much improved (what other proof can i use?). Not only that but the entire team has a different “feel”. Maybe it’s Garrett and the coaches having a full offseason, i don’t know.

He's almost 70. You rarely get better at your job as you near that age, and GM is a demanding/cerebral job. And no, Stephen Jones doesn't make me feel better about the situation.

There's no law of averages in football. Look at Oakland, Cleveland, Minnesota, etc.

Every offseason there's some move or situation (signed TO, cut TO, drafted x, y and z, etc) that has the mouth breather fans like Dbair yapping away about how great the team will be. Realistically, this is a shitty team with no oline or depth behind its 6-7 studs.

Excited kool-aid drinking homers are the reason many hate Dallas fans and think they deserve every ounce of Jerry Jones that they can get for the next 40 years.

Some of the posts here are proof of why this site would be another version of CZ if it had more than 7 members. Homers can't help themselves when encouraged in group environments. Just how you were raised.

Look at Houston. Do you know how long they have been bad? Detroit? Niners?

I don’t understand the homer comments because i don’t know what you have to base it on? Do you know for a fact that this team will fail? No, you do not. I have proof from the preseason that the Cowboys defense is improved. Will it carry over to the real thing? I don’t know.

I think your hate for Garrett has now blinded you to any other opinion, which is just as bad as a blind homer. You want him to fail so bad you won’t allow any optimism into your head. You have completely wrapped yourself around this viewpoint. Your reputation is on the line. Garrett must fail.

Some people can think with their own mind and are not pathetic enough to believe everything Jerry touches turns to gold.

You're like cowboyjoe in the sense that you feel like Jerry might read all your kool-aid drinking posts, but at least joe doesn't want Jerry to give it to him ass to mouth. Pervert.

Not really.

Garrett has already failed multiple times. He just keeps getting more and more chances because he was hand-picked by Jerry and that's the way things work here.

I am hoping for the best and would love to be surprised, but realistically, there's a huge gap between our organization and top-tier ones in the conference.

Even 2nd/3rd place finishers from last year (ATL, Detroit, Chicago) will be stronger. It's not just Dallas who made offseason moves to improve. We'll see what happens though. I'm just surprised that most people have not learned by now that almost every football move Jerry makes usually does not pan out.

The renewed optimism each off season is like a study in lab rats who keep getting electrocuted each time they go for the cheese.

You say not really.

But the reality is, Hou/Det/SF put an end rather quickly to your argument.

SF shows just how inept Garrett is. Many people had SF finishing in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes last season, but Harbaugh completely turned that franchise around. They had a lot less "talent" than Dallas and Romo is a million times better than Alex Smith. It shows that Garrett can only do well with pro bowlers at every position, but that's not necessary with a good competent head coach.

I'll have some empanadas and go swimming to honor his big day.

Kick or receive.

How do you want to start the game?

Usually I want to kick. When I used to play I was on kickoff and played defense, so naturally I wanted to get out there right away and just unleash on somebody.
