We will be competitive but find a way to lose. Safe money is on a Jason Garrett coaching blunder to do us in.

Sean Weatherspoon has a low ankle sprain
Posted by Josh Alper on October 29, 2012, 4:51 PM EDT
Initial reports about the ankle injury suffered by Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon were that it was a minor sprain and those reports got some confirmation on Monday.

D.Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that coach Mike Smith told reporters that Weatherspoon suffered a low ankle sprain in the 31-17 win over the Eagles. The injury has a much quicker recovery timeline than the high ankle sprain that often forces players to the sideline for several weeks.

Weatherspoon was carted off the field during the game, but was not in serious pain in the locker room after the final whistle. Smith didn’t get into specifics about Weatherspoon’s status on Monday, which Ledbetter writes is something he only does in the case of a major injury.

“He did not return,” Smith said. “Sean is in the training room and we’ll have a more concrete idea of where he’s at after practice (on Wednesday). But he did sustain an ankle injury in the ball game.”

Assuming Weatherspoon’s injury doesn’t respond poorly from a return to work on Wednesday, it seems likely he’ll be on the field in Week Nine when the Falcons try to complete a perfect first half on Sunday night against the Cowboys.

This is how I envision it:

A competitive game, we do stupid shit all game long as usual but find a way to claw back into the game. We're down by 2 and it's 4th and 1 on the Falcons 29 yard line. There's 45 seconds lefts. Garrett has Romo spike the ball to stop the clock.

It's a process.

Just got finished studying the Falcons tape. Their defense and offensive line is so much improved over last year. This team is legit.

Wondering if Orie Lemon starts in ATL or Ernie Sims. Not sure if Dan Connor is gonna make it.

‏@BryanBroaddus
@calvinwatkins I think you are reading the Ernie Sims start the right way. Connor is no go.

Odd statistic:

In 20 career games (9 at home, 11 on road), #Falcons WR Julio Jones is averaging 36 yards per game at home and 103 ypg on the road.

FLOWERY BRANCH–Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon did not practice today because of a right ankle injury suffered during the game at Philadelphia on Sunday.

Weatherspoon is being treated for a low ankle sprain. Weatherspoon was hurt on a tackle attempt against Eagles running back LeSean McCoy in the fourth quarter of Atlanta’s 30-17 victory.

“I think we know where he’s going to be tomorrow in terms of whether if he’s going to be able to go beyond that,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “He wasn’t able to come out here and work with our guys on the sideline. When he can get out here and do some stuff on the side then we’ll think he has a chance. If he’s not able to do that, then we think he will not be ready to go.”

Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan was asked how he would adjust if Weatherspoon can’t play.

“I might need your help on that,” Nolan quipped. “That’s a game-plan thing. All I can tell you is that’s a tough one. We’ll see.”

Akeem Dent worked with the starters in place of Weatherspoon. Dent played every defensive snap against the Raiders with Stephen Nicholas slowed by a sore ankle.

Falcons guard Garrett Reynolds (back) and wide receiver Kevin Cone (groin) also sat out practice today.

Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas (knee/ankle) worked off to the side with trainers for most of practice before participating in some of the walk-through reps. He suffered the injury against the Raiders and missed the Eagles game.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (knee), kicker Matt Bryant (back) and wide receivers Drew Davis (hamstring) and Roddy White (back) were limited.

Running back DeMarco Murray (foot) and wide receiver Dez Bryant (hip) missed practice for the Cowboys.

Murray has missed the past two games.

“It’s an injury where feel like have to be patient with him,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “We will visit with him tomorrow morning and see where he’s at.”

Bryant was hurt while making what at first was ruled a game-winning touchdown catch Sunday against the Giants. The touchdown was overturned on review.

I would rest my banged up starters (gear up for a stretch run) against us too.

No matter what product the opposing team sets on the field, Dallas will find a way to dig themselves into a huge hole.

Dwayne Harris will handle PR and Lance Dunbar will be the KR. Cole Beasley will backup both spots.

‏@calvinwatkins
Ernie Sims will start at ILB with Bruce Carter. Dan Connor said he won't play Sunday at ATL.
