Overall, the level of play during Week 1 has been better than what we've seen during the Week 1's of the past 3 or 4 seasons.

Hawkins is a nice feel-good story. You know he worked hard to get where he's at now.

Why did we pick Jesse Holley over #16 for the Bengals C. Hawkins ?!?!?

Oh yeah, Michael Irvin loves only the tall WR's no matter how slow...

Cowboys to face Seahawks and rowdy crowd at CenturyLink Field
By Rainer Sabin / Reporter
6:56 pm on September 10, 2012

IRVING – In the first 26 years of their existence, the Seattle Seahawks qualified for the playoffs only five times. They were a listless team that played in a drab domed stadium before temporarily relocating to a college facility.

Eventually, they settled into brand new digs, setting up shop at airy CenturyLink Field in 2002. Since then, the Seahawks’ fortunes have changed. They have made the playoffs six times in the previous 10 seasons.

That Seattle’s recent run of success began around the same time its 67,000-seat home opened may be coincidental. Then again, it may not be. Since 2002, only six NFL teams – the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers — have posted a better winning percentage at home than the Seahawks have.

For those who have been to CenturyLink Field, it’s easy to see why Seattle’s opponents have struggled to win there.

“This is a very difficult place to play,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s loud. It’s almost a college-type atmosphere.”

This week Garrett plans to pump up the volume at practice with simulated noise so that his team will be prepared to block out the din of the crowd. Dallas had seven pre-snap penalties in a 24-17 victory over the New York Giants and the Cowboys are looking to avoid similar mistakes in an environment that is hostile for the opposition.

“There are a lot of stadiums in the NFL that are loud,” Cowboys center Ryan Cook said. “Seattle happens to be one of them.”

But no place perhaps helps the team it houses quite like CenturyLink Field. It gives the Seahawks a true home-field advantage.

Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins expects to play Sunday at Seattle, but starting center Phil Costa won’t be active
By Brandon George / Reporter
5:30 pm on September 10, 2012

IRVING– Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins said that he will be ready to play Sunday at Seattle. Starting center Phil Costa won’t be, however, and it’s still uncertain whether nose tackle Jay Ratliff can improve enough to make his season debut.

Jenkins missed the entire off-season and pre-season recovering from reconstructive right shoulder surgery. He will practice in pads for the first time Wednesday and said he expects to play against the Seahawks.

“That’s the plan,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins practiced Monday, but it remains unclear how exactly he’ll fit into the Cowboys’ defense.

“He’s been mostly an outside cornerback for us, so we want to get him back comfortable doing what he does,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn’t expect Costa to play against Seattle as he continues to recover from a lower back injury that flared up again in the first series Wednesday at the Giants.

Costa wouldn’t answer questions about his back injury but did say “it’s disappointing.” Ryan Cook replaced Costa at center against the Giants and will start at Seattle. Also, second-year player David Arkin could be active for the first time at Seattle as the Cowboys’ backup center.

Ratliff, the Cowboys’ Pro Bowl nose tackle, hasn’t fully practiced since he suffered a high ankle sprain Aug. 25 in a preseason game against St. Louis.

Jones said he watched Ratliff on Monday and said “it’s possible” that he plays at Seattle.

“He’s being very aggressive on it,” Jones said. “He’s making really good progress. Now, is it the smart thing to do? Where he plays is very demanding. Plus you got a lot of flak going on in there. You need to be at a high level of healthy with your wheels inside there. I’m sure that will weigh into it, more importantly, just where he is opposed to another week, what that would do for us.”

Danny McCray, the Cowboys’ best special teams player, said he fully practiced Monday and will play at Seattle after missing the opener against the Giants because of a sore neck that was caused by a stinger.

Jason Garrett: ‘Amazing’ that Russell Wilson won starting job in Seattle
By Jon Machota / Special Contributor
3:01 pm on September 10, 2012

IRVING – As he answered questions from media members Monday morning at Valley Ranch, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett spent very little time talking about the season opening victory over the New York Giants.

“We’re well into Seattle right now,” Garrett said. “We’re on to the next one. We cleaned up the Giant game on Friday with our players. We’re focused on Seattle. We’ll have a Seattle practice this morning.”

A “Seattle practice” likely included game-planning for Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson. Seattle signed free agent quarterback Matt Flynn to a three-year, $26 million deal in March and drafted Wilson in the third round in April.

Wilson had a good career at North Carolina State before transferring to Wisconsin for his senior season. Although Wilson had an outstanding year [33 touchdown passes, four interceptions and six rushing scores] and guided the Badgers to the Rose Bowl, he fell to the third round largely because of his height. Wilson is listed at 5-11.

But an impressive preseason led to Wilson earning the starting job over Flynn. Wilson played in all four preseason games, completing 40-of-63 passes for 536 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed 10 times for 150 yards and a score.

“We were really impressed by him coming out of school,” Garrett said. “He had a really, really productive college career. He just has a really good feel for playing the game and playing the quarterback position. It’s amazing that he went in there and took that starting job. That’s a hard thing for a rookie to do in the NFL. He’s been impressive through the preseason and impressive in the ballgame [Sunday].”

Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr talked about what he saw from the rookie when he recently watched film.

“He’s a rookie quarterback but he has a lot of savvy,” Carr said Monday. “From just looking on film, if you didn’t know he was looking at you, you couldn’t tell he was a rookie quarterback. He handles himself well in the pocket. When he gets outside the pocket, he keeps his poise and gets the ball down the field.”

Cowboys prepare for Seattle noise
September, 10, 2012
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys had five false-start penalties and two delay-of-game penalties in their season opener against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

On Sunday they head to Seattle’s CenturyLink Field, which is among the loudest stadiums in the NFL.

To prepare for the Seahawks, the Cowboys will do something they did not do in preparation for the Giants: pump in crowd noise at practice.

“All week long there will be sound at practice,” coach Jason Garrett said. “This is a very difficult place to play. It’s loud, almost a college-type atmosphere, so we have t make sure we handle it better this week than we did last week. We had too many pre-snap penalties last week. Noise was probably a factor in that. Not the only factor in that, but we have to get better in that area, so we’re going to try as coaches to put our players in the best position to be ready for that all week long.”

With Monday’s practice, the Cowboys have an extra day to prepare for the Seahawks, who visited Cowboys Stadium last season.

“We’ve played them in recent years but it’s not like they’re a division opponent,” Garrett said. “So we want to make sure we’re on top of their new personnel and some of the things they’re doing with their personnel. So this will be an important day for us.”

It's just that it's much less severe than the alternatives, which is why the Seahawks breathed a collective sigh of relief after tests confirmed that Russell Okung suffered a bruise in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, not ligament damage.

"He's cleared," coach Pete Carroll said. "We'll see how he comes back Wednesday and Thursday, but we expect him to make it through the week and play."

The injury to receiver Charly Martin was a little more severe as the receiver suffered a bruised lung after he fell hard trying to catch a ball in the end zone on Seattle's second-to-last play of the game. Martin remained in Arizona after the game as he didn't return with the team.

"It was pretty serious," Carroll said of the injury. "He'll be there until at least (Tuesday) if not the next day. We're going to have to take care of Charly and bring him back. It's going to be a couple of weeks for him."

Receiver Doug Baldwin suffered an injury to his teeth, which will require a procedure scheduled for Tuesday.

"He officially got his teeth knocked in," Carroll said. "It was a mess."

Baldwin is expected to be available this week, though.

Carroll said Golden Tate tested his injured knee by running Monday, and could be ready to return this week. Carroll was asked if the team may need to add a receiver after Martin's injury.

"That's a possibility," Carroll said. "We're looking into all that."

Asked specifically about tight end Kellen Winslow, who remains unsigned after the Seahawks released him, Carroll didn't dismiss the question outright.

"Everybody's a possibility at this point," Carroll said.

Guard John Moffitt was inactive for Sunday's game though he had practice the previous two weeks.

"We just felt like it wasn't enough time to get him ready for this one," Carroll said. "This week, he will be ready to go."

Moffitt was a third-round pick out of Wisconsin last year, and he started nine games for Seattle before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He missed about three weeks of training camp after undergoing surgery to remove loose particles from his elbow.

Rookie J.R. Sweezy started at right guard. Carroll declined to say how the team plans to work Moffitt into that position this week.

"Wait and see," Carroll said. "See how the weeks goes."

Did you guys see the Raiders had to use a backup LB as a long snapper last night? Two grounders to Lechler and another punt blocked because Lechler was standing closer to the line. What a nightmare.
