It's almost like we just do the opposite of what a good idea would be.

signing a crap safety to a 5-year extension when there was no need or rush...giving a suspect, 30-year old guard $6 million guaranteed...franchising an outside linebacker who averages just over 4 sacks a year... all good ideas no?

I'd love to get Wimbley don't get me wrong, but we can get an OLB in the draft. It's a pretty deep class.

Same can be said for defensive end. Remember the days when we didn't have free agency and you had to build your team only through the draft?

The only problem with that is you need to draft the right prospects. We seemed to be getting on the right track though. Last years class was nice. Let's hope Jerry sticks with the same plan.

Manning gets 5 years worth 96 million.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...ing-denver-broncos-agree-96m-deal-source-says

The Denver Broncos and Petyon Manning reached agreement on a five-year, $96 million contract on Tuesday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Manning will be introduced as the Broncos' new starting quarterback at a 3 p.m. ET news conference.

The Broncos now will attempt to trade quarterback Tim Tebow, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortenesen and Schefter.
Manning was wooed to Denver by John Elway, the Hall of Fame quarterback who led the Broncos to two Super Bowl titles in the late 1990s and now serves as their vice president of football operations. Elway never sounded all that convinced Tebow was the answer at the league's most important position, and could trade the hugely popular quarterback who energized the Broncos in a run to the playoffs last season but was plagued by erratic play.
Manning turns 36 on Saturday and missed the 2011 season because of multiple neck operations, which made him expendable to the rebuilding Indianapolis Colts. They cut him March 7 rather than pay a $28 million bonus.

The Broncos, however, have few concerns with Manning's medical condition. He already passed the physical exam that a team of Broncos doctors administered during the visit to Durham, a development that Elway informed Manning of when he returned home to Denver that night.

Manning also passed physical exams by San Francisco and Tennessee but he has told all teams that he still has gains to achieve in terms of arm strength and endurance that are related to nerve regeneration due to his neck injury.

Manning's arrival will set in motion a string of personnel moves for the Broncos. Denver has had a free-agent plan strictly for if the team was able to sign Manning. The two sides now will pursue other players to bolster the roster, some of whom will be familiar to Manning.
One interesting player is former Colts center Jeff Saturday, whom Manning has always endorsed as invaluable to his own performance. A source said discussions related to Saturday, who was Manning's center with the Colts for 12 years, involved evaluations by all three teams' personnel and coaching staffs on whether he would be a logical fit. However, Manning did not mandate that he and Saturday would have to be a package deal, sources said.
Saturday was supposed to visit the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee, but Denver will have great allure due to Manning's arrival.

Under terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, Manning is not allowed to engage in classroom football discussions with the coaching staff until April 16.
He will not be allowed to use the team's football field under the supervision and instruction of the coaching staff until May 2. Any throwing sessions under the supervision of trainers that are considered part of his rehab may not involve current Broncos receivers until April 16. He can throw independently with Denver receivers without coaching supervision or instruction but it must be away from the facility until the allowable voluntary window opens per the CBA.
Tebow took over a 1-4 team from Kyle Orton last year and led the Broncos to an 8-8 finish and the AFC West crown with a series of stirring comebacks that captured the attention of the NFL and beyond.

Tebowmania reached its apex in the playoffs, when he threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the very first play of overtime to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. The next week, though, Tebow was smothered by the New England Patriots, who routed the Broncos, 45-10.
Afterward, Elway declared Tebow was the Broncos' starting quarterback heading into training camp this summer but said the left-hander would have to improve his flawed mechanics and footwork to win the job heading into the season.

He also said he'd spent time tutoring Tebow himself and would add more quarterback competition through the draft and free agency.
Several Broncos predicted the free agency floodgates will swing wide open once Manning officially joins the team.

"I think we'll sign some guys, probably a few guys, like Dallas Clark, Jeff Saturday, guys waiting to see what Peyton was going to do," Broncos defensive end Robert Ayers said. "Defensive guys want to play with a lead, and I'm pretty sure guys are going to assume Peyton will put up points in this offense, we have some weapons."
With Manning joining the Broncos, oddsmakers in Las Vegas immediately made Denver one of the top choices to win the Super Bowl next season, which will be played in Manning's hometown of New Orleans.

Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Why not. Bring Saturday and Clark with you. Brandon Stokley is already on the roster. This could be interesting.

Spencer, 5 years - 21.5 sacks, 266 tackles, 1 INT
Wimbley, 6 years - 42.5 sacks, 369 tackles, 2 INT

In one more season Wimbley has 103 more tackles and 21 more sacks. Wimbley is only 3 months older.

The shittiest part is that Wimbley has had ZERO help.

Since Spencer got to the NFL, Ware has put up 80 sacks.

Compare that to Wimbley's counterpart. And by counterpart I mean the highest sack producing teammate of his. Add them up from his time in Cleveland and Oakland and it comes out to like 33 sacks.

Shit, is that all?

Basically 5M more than the two OL cost dallas?

Lets see......with the money given to those guys the team could have had Wimbley.

Cut Spencer, sign either of the two Cs you want and they still could have gotten one of the shitty guards.

You make some good points. Thanks for reminding us Spencer still sucks. Lapped again.

Why do you assume peeople haven't watched him?

If you haven't watched him alot, why do you assume he'll be any good?

Why should I not assume that people who post on a cowboys board have not watched a guard who played on the Bengals?

I think the odds are highly in my favor that collectively this board could not even name him before Free Agency let alone watched him play a snap.

I don't assume anything about him because I have never noticed the player but I know enough to claim he is crap either.

Wimbley has had plenty of help he plays with Seymour and Kelly 2 players who are above average and have been named all pro.

Tommy Kelley had 7.5 sacks last year and Seymour had 6 and Wimbley rushed the passer over 150 more times than Spencer.

Its comparing apples to oranges.

I knew of Livings before free agency kicked in. In fact, I was looking at him or Mike McGlynn as Olinemen I hoped Dallas would add in free agency. But the deeper I delved, the more I learned that they weren't that good.

Lions sign Stephen Tulloch to five-year deal

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 20, 2012, 4:06 PM EDT

A league source told PFT’s Mike Florio that Tulloch has signed a five-year deal to remain with the Lions.

After playing his first five seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, Tulloch signed a one-year contract with the Lions, where he could play with his old Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Tulloch started all 16 games and had a good season in Detroit.

There was some talk when free agency began that the Lions and Tulloch weren’t particularly close in their expectations for a contract extension, but once the Lions freed up some salary cap space by restructuring several contracts, working out a deal with Tulloch became the team’s top priority. And now the deal is done.

OK how many snaps did you watch him play?

I am not standing on the table about Livings its just that way to many people are talking like he is a scrub who was benched for poor performance.

Livings is garbage from what I can tell. These moves at guard scream of "we're smarter than the rest of you ha ha ha" moves that this front office is famous for.

I swear. I think Jerry thinks that he can take an average player, put a Dallas uniform on him, and said player automatically gets better because of it.

I think we'll all have the answer this time next year.

I hope I'm way off on this. It'd be nice to take two castoffs from bad teams and watch them take care of two holes on the line. I don't see it, but like Bob said earlier, none of us know a fucking thing about it.

You just described Kosier. Before Kosier came to the Cowboys, he really didn't do anything to stand out, except him shown being abused by Lavar Arrington. But he was pretty solid for us, in fact he was our most consistant Olineman.
