1.) Colt McCoy. The former Texas Longhorn standout is an unrestricted free agent. He hasn’t started a game the last two seasons and he attempted only one pass in 2013.

2.) Jimmy Clausen. The former Notre Dame standout was a second-round pick in 2010. But Carolina drafted Cam Newton in 2011 and Clausen hasn’t played in a game since.

3.) Jonathan Crompton. The 26-year-old spent last season playing for Edmonton in the CFL. He was a fifth-round pick by the Chargers in 2010. Crompton had success his senior year at Tennessee while he was coached by Monte Kiffin's son, Lane.

4.) Rusty Smith. He has been with the Titans since they drafted him in the sixth round in 2010. Smith has played in three games in four seasons.

5.) John Skelton. The Cowboys worked him out in December after Tony Romo was injured. Skelton started 17 games for the Cardinals during his first three years in the league. He spent the previous two seasons in San Francisco and Tennessee

6.) David Carr. The first overall pick in the 2002 draft also worked out for the Cowboys in December. Dallas chose to go with Jon Kitna instead of signing Carr, a journeyman who has played in Houston, Carolina, New York (Giants) and San Francisco.

7.) Tyler Thigpen. He also worked out for the Cowboys after Romo went down. Thigpen has played six seasons in the NFL, bouncing around from Kansas City, Miami and Buffalo.

8.) Caleb Hanie. The fourth member of QBs to work out for the Cowboys in December. Hanie started four games for the Bears in 2011 but hasn’t appeared in a game since.

9.) John Beck. A second round pick in 2007, Beck started three games for the Redskins in 2011. He was most recently signed by Houston but hasn’t played in a game since 2011.

10.) Tim Tebow. I doubt Jerry Jones would kick the tires on Tebow but you never really can be sure. He does have 16 regular season starts and a playoff victory on his resume.

Of that list, give me ...... Jimmy Clausen.

Proved to be an immature knucklehead at Carolina, and maybe he still is. But he's also still young, has upside, and as the #3 QB I'd hold out hope that a change of scenery and a few years experience maybe he could develop or one day show the promise he did in college.

Lets face it... anytime you're down to your #3 QB, your season is lost. Might as well have a young kid with potential than some of these old ass journeyman littering this list.

I guarantee Dallas roles with just Orton & Romo again, then wigeon shit hits the fan will scramble to pull Kitna or Drew Henson or some other schlub of the trash heap.

Who knows, it doesn't matter with this team. Plus, a #3 won't get any snaps on this team anyways. We have superman as our QB with back problems and stuff. We cool.

And FYI, that whole list sucks including Clausen.

#3? Isn't there a good chance Orton is cut? We're going to need cap space anyplace we can get it, I think.

No. They need to draft a guy with the intent on developing him to replace Romo in the not to distant future.

I cant see why they'd cut Orton. He's a relative bargain as a backup and is one of the best #2 guys in the league. When your starter is 33 and has had two back surgeries in less than a year, you need a quality #2 there.

:lol

He was not even a decent option when he was active.

Probably because if Romo is hurt you're screwed anyway.

I mean, last year we were restructuring Ryan Cook or whoever to get cap space. If I'm doing it right, making him a June 1 cap saves us over 3 mil on the cap. It's going to take a lot to get under it.

Yeah don't agree on that and haven't for quite some time.

I think there's been a number of articles written on this, and it isn't like we are going to have to cut half the roster to get under the cap.

I just don't see the advantage of cutting Orton right now.

Orton played well last year, so no, I don't believe we'd be screwed if Romo got hurt.

Of that list I'd roll the dice with Clausen
