Cowboys picks (6 rounds only)

14 Dallas Michael Brockers LSU DE34
Reach/Value:-13
Height:6'6" Weight:306
Alternate Pick #1 Dre Kirkpatrick
Alternate Pick #2 Alfonzo Dennard
After drafting the "People's Choice" OG David DeCastro last week, this CMD operates under the assumption that Cuzzin Jerruh opens his pocketbook and signs UFA Carl Nicks from the Saints to play OG. Any defensive backfield operates better when the opposing QB is pressured by the front seven; therefore, Dallas selects LSU Super Soph Michael Brockers (54 tackles, 10 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 int) to play DE on the opposite side of DeMarcus Ware (in front of OLB "Almost" Anthony Spencer). Many Cowboy fans would like "Almost" replaced, but a comparative analysis of the top 12 strong side OLB34's in the league shows Spencer to rank 1st in total tackles, tied for 5th in sacks, tied for 1st in fumbles forced, tied for 2nd in QB hits and tied for 1st in tackles for loss. The Giants have demonstrated in their playoff run that down linemen can generate pressure - if Brent and Lissemore prove they can handle the nose, Ratliff and Brockers would form an excellent set of bookends.

45 Dallas Stephon Gilmore South Carolina CB
Reach/Value:-9
Height:6'1" Weight:194
Alternate Pick #1 Coryell Judie
Alternate Pick #2 Jayron Hosley
For the second consecutive week, South Carolina's Stephon Gilmore is the selection . . . and the more I think about it, he fits the needs of the Cowboys defensive backfield. Gilmore started for the Gamecocks since his freshman year as a Parade All-American out of HS. He is equally adept at press or off coverage, has a nasty first punch on receivers and makes QB's pay for mistakes with excellent hands for interceptions. He is strong on run support and an aggressive hitter in the secondary with excellent tackling skills. The expression "student of the game" is overused at times, but Gilmore spends the extra time in the film room studying opponents. At 6'1", 194 lbs, he has the size to match up with taller WR's in the NFL, not to be overlooked as the only CB on Dallas' roster that is at least 6 foot tall is Alan Ball. Justification for addressing the CB position only requires the Cowboy roster roll call: Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, Alan Ball and Frank Walker.

82 Dallas Emmanuel Acho SILB Texas
Reach/Value:-18
Height:6'2" Weight:240

113 Dallas B.J. Coleman QB Tennessee-Chattanooga
Reach/Value:-31
Height:6'3" Weight:220

144 Dallas Nicolas Jean-Baptiste NT Baylor
Reach/Vlaue:-11
Height:6'2" Weight:335

175 Dallas Jaymes Brooks G Virginia Tech
Reach/Value:-14
Height:6'2" Weight:312

I like how they assume we will reach with every pick.

Wouldn't hate that mock but wouldn't love it either.

Same players available I'd go:
1(14) David DeCastro G Stanford
2(45) Markelle Martin FS Oklahoma State
3(82) Chandler Jones OLB Syracuse
4(113) Ladarius Green TE Louisiana-Lafayette
5(144) Joe Adams WR Arkansas
6(175) David Molk C Michigan

Joe Adams in the 5th?

lol

That guy is going to jump up draft boards after the combine.

Also, Markelle Martin looked shitty in coverage based on Senior Bowl reports.

They had Adams available there so I took him.

I just read two reports saying Martin looked good this week ??

They have Cordy Glenn, Ben Jones and Zeitler all going after us in the 2nd round. I see they are working off the assumption we signed Nicks in FA, but still, I wouldn't hesitate nabbing another OG in the top two rounds. But, I think 1-2 of these they have lasting til past the middle of the 2nd will be long gone by then.

I'm not mocking you taking him there. I just think that's an unrealistic steal. I don't get why he's so underrated at this point. The guy is going to be a star.

What I find interesting about the entire 1st round is that the Cowboys and Ravens are the two teams with the largest negative reach value, in fact they are the only teams with a double-digit negative reach value. They have the Cowboys selecting Brockers at #14 with a -13 reach value. So I assume that means the Cowboys would be taking Brockers 13 slots too early? For a position that is at near the low end of immediate need, with DeCastro and Kirkpatrick still on the board? And then according to this jacknuts, Vontaze is supposed to be near a mid 2nd round pick...ok. Hmmmm... Cowboys and Ravens with both reaches. Care to guess the fan affiliation this person that made these selections happen to be?
