WST: Ogletree ready to step in as the third receiver, make up for last season

Ogletree ready to step in as the third receiver, make up for last season

With Roy Williams and Sam Hurd gone to Chicago, there is void at third receiver behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Kevin Ogletree is hoping to fill that role.

"It's an opportunity, " Ogletree said. "That goes without saying. I have chance to help the team. Im anxious to do that."

Actually, the opportunity was there for Ogletree last year. But after a promising end to his rookie season in which the former undrafted free agent from Virginia got the Cowboys excited about his potential for the future _ so much so that they let Patrick Crayton go and considering doing the same with Hurd _ he struggled in camp last year.

The Cowboys were forced to keep Hurd and Ogletree was inactive for eight of the first 11 games.
And then when the team really needed him _ following a season ending injury to Bryant _ he couldn't help them because he suffered a season ending injury of his own.

He finished the season with just three receptions for 34 yards.

"Last year was disappointing for a lot of reasons," Ogletree said. "I would have liked to have contributed a little more. I didn't do things as well as I could have early on. Then I got hurt."
Ogletree said he is in this camp with a different attitude. He has learned a lot from the past season and plans to make the most of this opportunity.

"I learned the playbook," Ogletree said. "I learned how to practice. I learned how to go about your days. I'm here ready to go."

Hopefully he's learned that he hasn't yet made it, and to stop hollywooding on Miles Austin's coattails.

Kids got potential, but he has to keep ihs head in the game.

Agreed. He has the speed and the hands to be a quality slot receiver and a match up nightmare, but he has to tighten his head on.
