A team with a good coach, and "elite" QB, well-above average receivers, and a dominant defensive line...

How can that team be so streaky? So dominant in some games (@San Fran, vs GB, @Saints), and so putrid in others?

Dominant defensive line hasn't been so dominant. 2 sacks from the big 3 in the last 5 games.

Eli going through another funk like he normally does.

This is the normal for the Giants. Play decent in the regular season and hopefully get hot.

This is the NFL. Parity. Unless you play in a horrible division where you can get cheap wins. There wont be many teams with great records

But why has the Dline been such shat?

JPP looked like the second coming of Reggie White. Justin Tuck has been a very good player for years. Even Canty looks above average when he's healthy.

That team is constantly throwing draft picks at the Dline. Why are they underperforming?

I always thought it was wrong for people to act like they just find a way to turn it on at the right time. They just kept themselves in position and things broke right for them. And last year in particular Eli was just out of his head.

I think odds are good that Eli and Roethlisberger have won their last Superbowls. How many QBs in NFL history have won more than two?

I disagree about the "things broke right part" bc it's not a fluke to win 4 road playoff games. One was against that 18-0 Pats team. And then they did it all over again last season. They beat some excellent teams. That D line was just built for January and their receivers/Eli always stepped up big too.

I didn't mean that they just got lucky, because clearly they were really good. Not taking anything away from them at all.

But I've always felt that the playoffs are almost like a golf tournament. There is luck and good fortune involved, and the bounce of the ball and the way your opponents fare mean as much as anything. The key is to put yourself in position enough times and eventually things will go your way. That's where the Giants get credit, for being in position.

My real point was that I don't think they have some secret for turning it on at the end of the year like some have claimed. It's not like Coughlin plots to go 6-6 and then hit the accelerator. They're trying to win every game every week just like every other team.

That's all sort of off-topic from Mid's question, which is why are they so hit or miss. Just saying. But on his point, I think it's hard to come off a Superbowl year with the extra games and the hoopla and everyone telling you how great you are for several months, and in a league of parity that makes a difference. (Unless you're Belichick and the Patriots who just roll on.)
