From all of the street free agents and signings this past year just to keep the defense stocked with players, who would you keep for next year. Anyone show that they could compete against drafted talent and healthy current NFL starters.

I could see Selvie, Hayden (as rotational not a starter), Jarius Wynn, and Everette Brown staying to compete.

Kyle Wilber was starting to show some niche-ness. He and Holloman are at least very strong depth at LB. Neither one can cover.

Thoughts from the rubble?

I wouldn't keep anyone except the punter and kicker.

Need to get younger, more athletic, more talented. Players like Tanner that will get more money as a 3rd year veteran are easily replaceable with an undrafted free agent.

You can probably add Mackenzy Bernadeau (although he improved finally), Kyle Orton, Miles Austin, Justin Durant, and Phil Costa to the list as cap casualties.

Also, I think I'd let go of every defensive coach except Marinelli.

There's been several plays where Holloman was right on his guy and he's narrowly missed 3 or maybe even 4 picks in basically two games. He was around the ball all preseason too. I didn't see any evidence that he couldn't cover. He was also playing MLB for the first time ever the past two games, and that a pretty difficult position to learn. He's going to be a solid starter for us next yr at one of the OLB spots.

Why the heck would you cut Orton?

Let McCray, Sims, and Spencer walk. Bring the others back to camp.

Resign Bailey and Chris Jones.

We are $31 M over next year's cap and his cap number is $4,377,500. We save just over $3 M but cutting him.

Ware said he's up to renegotiate his deal. Miles is done.

Anyone know how much we save if we cut Brandon Carr? Because we need to.

Yeah, having a hard time tracking the ball doesn't mean you can't cover. He was in perfect position on a couple of them balls. Heck, even Jeff Heath was.

Holloman needs to start in place of Carter next year. I have never seen a lazier player in my life. I cannot believe he started all year while Holloman rode the bench.

Set up for more failure then. The starter is well past 30 and has 2 back surgeries in less than a yr.

Holloman was injured and inactive for several games.

I saw one time where he got sandwiched a little bit and he just stopped pursuing. He is terrible at getting off of blocks.

Definitely get rid of Orton. The Chiefs showed that you don't need to pay 5 million on a backup QB.

Chase Daniels was undrafted but a year ago.

I guess we differ in definition of coverage. Scandrick chases around WRs sometimes which could resemble coverage but it doesn't prevent a reception or thwart a throw on that WR. Holloman may be in proximity but he doesn't play the ball well or keep the WR from appearing open.
