When Jason Garrett was officially hired as head coach last month, owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Garrett would have complete say on the coaching staff.

While Garrett likely made the call to add Rob Ryan as the defensive coordinator, it seems pretty clear that Garrett listened to Ryan’s advice when it comes to adding a new linebackers coach.

On Thursday, Ryan completely raved about the addition of Matt Eberflus as the team’s linebackers coach. Eberflus worked the last two years in Cleveland under Ryan.

“Getting Matt Eberflus is a ridiculous hire,” Ryan said. “He’s fantastic, smart. He does everything right. He’s a rising star.”

Eberflus was the defensive coordinator at Missouri when Ryan said the Browns were seeking to find the next young, college coach.

“We had an intense search. We wanted to get the best college coach in football and bring him to the pros. So after interviewing about 10 guys. We ended up getting the best and that's Matt Eberflus. He is my right hand. He does a great job. He is not only smart. He works really well with the players. He is a technician. He is excellent at ideas. His mind is always working. I like a guy like that.”

If Ryan leaves and this kid is as good as Ryan says he is. Maybe we should think about making him Ryan's replacement? Thoughts, universettes?

Agreed.

While I love the Ryan hire, I hate the fact that it's at most a two year stop gap.

It won't be long before we're having to hire an entirely new defensive staff.

The good news is, we're going to win the Super Bowl in the meantime.
