Last year we were at the top in takeaways, but this year we are almost last! That one stat more then just about any other can decide games for us.

Last year we could just about count on at least one or two a game. But this year it just ain't happening

What's changed this year? Why are we not getting the takeaways like last year?

Every team practices stripping the ball. Turnovers mostly come from lack of protecting the ball, not from the opponents efforts. Teams we've played this year are protecting the ball better. That's primarily why we're not collecting fumbles - we're still going for the strip all the time, it's just not working as much as it did last year.

Our Legion of Boobs secondary can't catch a cold. And can't cover or tackle for shit - So that's why not getting the picks.

I can't even remember how many drops I've seen this year from our secondary. At least 4-5 so far. Just like the pats game, I don't remember who it was but Brady hit him right in the numbers and he dropped it.

That can't happen if we want to win with all our starters gone. We need to capitalize on every single opportunity

That's been consistent at least the last 4-5 years. They can't fucking catch.

Two things: One, takeaways are extremely variable from year to year. Nobody has figured out how to teach taking the ball away year after year.

And two, we're playing a tremendous amount of man to man. And that means fewer eyes on the ball. Marinelli would probably like to play more zone, but our personnel (esp. Claiborne) suck at it.

Law of averages says the Cowboys are going to get more turnovers. Hopefully soon.

Church screwed up an easy fumble recovery opportunity after he Brady/Hardy strip/sack.

We've had opportunities for takeaways this season but we've screwed them all up. From dropping an INT even when it hits you in the hands or in one case in the face

To not jumping on fumbles. So the opportunities have been there we just haven't capitalized when we have had the chance

You're talking about the certain pick six that was missed vs. NE? The sun blinded our guys on that one. Jerruh's idiot stadium design affects play on the field.

But more to the point and I'll say it again - The Legion of Boobs can't catch the ball even under the best conditions. Not even in practice.
To not jumping on fumbles.
There simply haven't been that many to jump on. Teams are protecting the ball better this year.

I'm quite sure the architects were well aware of this and I'm sure jerri said something along the lines of its my team, my stadium and I'll put it where I gad damned please.

I've built houses for 20+ years and the clients always think they know better than everyone else

You would think and hope he would build it in such a way as to give his team the best home field advantage as possible

But instead he builds to give his pocketbook the best advantage possible

And it certainly did that

I took pictures off my Plasma TV screen, of the freeze-frames where that pick was missed and it is quite clear the sun was blinding our guys.

Old Texas Stadium: Advantage Dallas. Late afternoon sun beating down on the opponents bench and stands, ours was in the shade. Opponents fans hated the place.

New Stadium: Advantage opponent. Cool, comfortable and bring ALL your fans - they love it!

Ironically after looking at the scoreboard I realized, this is about two plays before the missed pick, which happened in the 4th quarter with us then facing the sun and not the Pats.

Great pic by the way.

when the stadium first opened, I remember the Atlanta coach being pissed that we didn't use the curtains, so they presumably exist

Here's one of the four snaps I made.

You can't catch what Jerry doesn't want you to see.

Holy shit! I didn't realize it was that bad. WTF was Jerry thinking when they laid out the stadium?

Or more likely what he wasn't thinking about was his own damn team

That's just idiotic on his part

I always thought Jerry wanted it more visible to all the people on I-30, which runs basically east-west. Can build a billion dollar monument to yourself and then have all those people just look at one end.

Didn't think of it until now, but I bet he also didn't want the sun washing out one side of his huge Jerrytron.

So really, the thing never had a chance of being built north south. Form and $$$ over function, always.
