DEVON H. - SALT LAKE CITY, UT: What do you suppose is the reason for the delay in announcing the hiring of Rob Ryan?
Nick: I think the Cowboys want to send out one announcement with every coaching move on it. While that probably won't happen, I think that's one of the reasons for the delay. Plus, he probably hasn't officially signed the contract, which would also delay the announcement of the official news. But it's going to happen.
Rob: No indication that there has been a snag in negotiations or anything like that. Seems the Cowboys might want to announce their entire coaching staff at once, and obviously it's still incomplete, even with Ryan expected to come aboard. Makes it tougher on us as reporters because as the official site, we don't want to conflict with the team's silence, but we do our best to get the right information out to you guys. And we've said all along that all signs have pointed to Ryan, even though nothing's been announced yet.
Josh: Ultimately I think it comes down to the people who are in charge of making the announcement - and by that I don't mean Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett or Ryan himself. By all accounts the deal is done, and no one with the team has shot down reports that it's done. But sometimes the people who are in charge of these things have their reasons that the rest of us aren't necessarily privy to. Nothing to worry about.
JOSEPH GARCIA - SANTA ANA, CA: Does the hiring of Rob Ryan have a lot to do with what his brother Rex has done?
Nick: That probably has some to do with it. At least, it' probably a reason Rob's defenses in both Cleveland and Oakland have received more credit than the subpar rankings. Plus, I think his aggressive style and flamboyant personality are two things that are desired and needed on this staff.
Rob: Not from the Cowboys' perspective. When looking at who's out there, he might be the most qualified coach other than an Eric Mangini. Ryan does have seven years' experience as an NFL coordinator, and that's completely separate from his brother Rex's resume. But the Ryan brothers have always had name appeal because of Buddy, and Rex's own success has obviously taken it to a new level.
Josh: I think that's why he was a hot name for outsiders speculating about who the next coordinator might be, but I doubt the Cowboys are being totally swayed by Rex's success. People know about his brother's personality and all that, and it sounds like a part of Rob's package too, but the most important thing really is his scheme, and I'd bet it's similar to Rex's as well.
