Ed Werder‏ @Edwerderespn
I'm told #Cowboys No. 2 pick @thejaylonsmith has experienced no significant improvement in injured nerve so far. Playing 2016 seems unlikely

The front office apologists and pom pom squad are circling the wagons at the zone. As for me I love the player but hate the pick. One of the biggest lies I ever heard from the front office (to the point where they think you have a low double digit IQ) is NE was going to draft him in the 2nd. Broaddus even called BS on that. NE has been at the top of the food chain for two decades because the owner knows he isnt a football guy, and they arent stupid.

2nd round was way too high to draft him. Still hoping he becomes that special player

Sounds like he's going to contribute about as much as the rest of our second rounders as of late.

Not only that, they have a very closed information environment where if this were true, it would only be released because it served their purposes in some capacity.

It may be true and they may have deliberately released this info but if so, I fail to see where it benefits them in any way.

When they replaced my knee, they cut the infrapatellar nerve. It's responsible for sensation in your skin on the front and outside of your joint. While it's healing you have a numb patch irregular in shape about 5 inches across.I asked the surgeon how long it would take to get feeling back.He said 6-12 months, maybe longer.I pressed him a bit about "what maybe longer meant" he said nerves sometimes don't heal.
So I asked my GP about it later and he grabbed a reference book from his library and he looked it up.Basically the same thing.
The Cowboys made a pretty big bet on this nerve healing.

This was a strong draft. 34 would have gotten you a 1st round caliber player, a much-needed defensive starter. Jerry went for the media-hit, taking the feel-good Smith.

Great player, dumb move that high in the 2nd round. I would say "they better be right on him" but this GM has no accountability.

I didn't like the pick. I was pissed, actually. You should have seen the meltdown I had in the draft chatter thread at the DCC. But, after cooling down, if he can get back to his original form, he is a steal. Big if, mind you.

This thread is begging the question, who would you have picked?
Curiosity only,what's done is done.
I'm just picking your brains a little.

I would have taken Myles Jack personally but I don't have privy to all of the medical. It seems the concern with him is the opposite of Smith. He can play now but they fear he might not have a long career (Leary?).

Assuming the knee is worst than I'm imagining, Chris Jones out of Mississippi State.

since no one asked...

I also would have taken Bronson Kaufusi DE BYU over Maliek "One Trick Pony" Collins in the 3rd.
Joshua Perry OLB Ohio State over Charles Tapper with the first 4th rounder.
a cadaver over Dak Prescott with the second 4th rounder.
Maurice Canady CB Virginia over Anthony Brown with the first 6th.
Will Parks S Arizona over Kavon Frazier with the second 6th.
Keith Marshall RB Georgia over Darius Jackson with the third 6th.
Scooby Wright LB Arizona over Rico Gathers with the last 6th.

* I would have tried like hell to sign Gathers as a UDFA.

and that's after I took Jalen Ramsey over Zeke in the 1st.

Ramsey, Jones, and Kaufusi starting on defense. Perry possibly challenging for the starting SAM spot.

"With the third pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft the Dallas Cowboys pass."

This will no doubt go down in history as one of the biggest Jerry blunders of all time, and that is quite an accomplishment considering his record as GM.

I sure hope I'm wrong but I know I'm not. Taking this guy in the 2nd with all that talent still on the board was just dumb as hell even by Jerry standards.

It was the biggest roll of the dice in the draft with a potential for a home run talent just sitting right there for Jerry. He could just picture a healthy stud LB playing in Big D for a decade and hearing how Jerry stole the draft for the next decade. Too much for Jerry to pass on. Ultimate risk with a high payoff, IF it pans out. Jerry could never have lived with himself if he passed that up.
