Toward the end of every season, most NFL teams gather the college scouts together with the front office to discuss some of the best players for the upcoming college draft.
The Cowboys conducted such meetings in December, as always, but the team has yet to put up its draft board in the war room.
A preliminary draft board is ready but only a few people in the organization have seen it, including owner Jerry Jones and director of college and pro scouting Tom Ciskowski.
Expect the draft board, which changes on a daily basis, to go up in the war room shortly.
For a team coming off a 10-loss season, there are plenty of questions about what to do at the safety, offensive line and cornerback positions.
As a comparison, Michael Wright of ESPNChicago.com talks about what the Chicago Bears have done already regarding the draft.
This has been a busy offseason for the Cowboys.
Jones had to hire a coach, which he did in Jason Garrett, and the team is evaluating the coaching staff and has reached an agreement with Rob Ryan to become the defensive coordinator. A few more coaching positions are expected to open up, and next week is the annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., a job fair if you will for coaches looking for jobs.
If the Cowboys can't close the deals this week on finalizing their staff, then it could happen at the Senior Bowl next week.
What to do with the personnel is another issue for the Cowboys.
The uncertainty of the labor agreement also gives the Cowboys some issues regarding the talent on the roster.
One thing is certain, and that's the draft, and the Cowboys have to make sure things are done right.
