DALLAS -- On Tuesday Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan can produce some exotic looks, especially on third down when he would have maybe one player with his hand on the ground.

DeMarcus Ware, working Radio Row on behalf of Gatorade on Thursday, seemed to confirm Ryan will bring that type of defense to the Cowboys.

“I know what type of defense he has,” said Ware, who lead the NFL with 15.5 sacks in 2010. “He’s a pressure guy and will do a lot with the versatile guys that we have. I know it’s going to be good for us.”

Ware said he thinks the Cowboys will blitz more with Ryan than they did with Wade Phillips.

In Phillips’ scheme, “it depended on what the situation was,” Ware said. “I’m talking all the time, like a Philly. I think a lot more crazy looks and blitz like Wade but with a lot more crazy looks. Guys will have more responsibilities.”

Wade blitzed a ton, so I don't know what Ware is talking about.

Ryan will be more creative, that's for sure. Or is hoped to be.

A Wade Phillips blitz was bringing one or both of the ILBers.

That was the extent of it.

The numbers were posted by Sturm about the number of blitzes done by a member of the secondary... And those numbers were tiny compared to either the Packers or the Steelers.

Wade's blitzes weren't exotic and his replacement as DC was even less aggressive.

True, they hardly involved the corner, but he still sent 5 and 6 rushers quite a bit.

I'm down for more of these "crazy" looks, but I really worry about the ability of these players to pick up a more exotic (esoteric?) defense. Not many on that side of the ball have shown themselves to be shining beacons of intelligence and I wonder if Ryan is gonna end up having to rip a few pages out of his playbook.

Fair enough statement.

But I wonder how much of that apparent "What the eff should I be doing out here" stuff will go away given a real training camp with lots of study and lots of practice.

I really hope that's the case.

When Parcells called them a dumb group of players several years back though, I got a headache that hasn't quite gone away.

All 3-4 defenses bring a lot of pressure, that is suppose to help the back end.

It didn't look that way with us this year though, because we blew so many coverages.

Ryan's defense will have more stunts and blitzes, but I hope our corners are ready on their end.

I really think our defense does a 360 next year and dominates in some games. We just need to add a few good players to the mix.

Not all. Parcells' in Dallas didn't.

Better posters would help more.

better posters will help the defense? That is some Zone level delusion right there.

By the way, which one of your boyfriends did I offend? Alan Ball or Gerald Jagabaugh?
