David Buehler did not have a field goal attempt at San Diego on Saturday. The last time he kicked in front of his teammates was last Thursday when he missed four tries.

While the Cowboys are not ready to name Buehler their field goal kicker, Wade Phillips believed Buehler has the confidence of his team by making five of six attempts during the preseason.

That wasn't the case in the kicking game last year with Nick Folk and Shaun Suisham combining to make just 19-of -29 kicks. The players never felt a field goal was automatic, which was the case with Folk in 2007 and '08.

"We want to keep him working," Phillips said. "... His consistency has been good. We'll just keep working. I feel good about him overall. I think him kicking those three in one game and a couple more puts some confidence in him and our team. That's the main thing, the team. They see him making them. They see him making a lot in practice and they know he's working hard at it, so there' confidence in him."
