Former Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has landed another coaching gig.

Phillips will coach the West team in the East-West Shrine game, to be played in Orlando, Fla., on Jan 22. The game pitches college seniors and serves as part of the pre-draft evaluation process.

Dan Reeves will handle the East team. Phillips served as defensive coordinator on Reeves' staffs at Denver and Atlanta.

It's a step down for Phillips in terms of post-season coaching. A year ago, after the Cowboys were eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs, Phillips handled the NFC team in the Pro Bowl.

The Cowboys fired Phillips on Nov. 8. He went 34-22 in three-plus seasons.

Phillips would actually be a pretty good college coach. Somewhere where the team is stocked with talent and where his coddling will be a coaching advantage.

I think he'd be a mess in the college ranks. We know how kids are. Wade would get the substitute teacher treatment in a heart beat.
