Top 10 No Sure Thing, But 'Boys Have Hit

The list of recent No. 9 picks includes some hits and misses. For every Brian Urlacher or B.J. Raji, there's a Koren Robinson or Ted Ginn Jr.

That list might make you wonder whether the Cowboys should try to trade up or trade way down. Even the top 10 is no sure thing. Then again, what is? The full seven rounds are filled with future steals and busts.

One thing has been proven, though: the Cowboys have been pretty good picking in the top 12 (I'm stretching out the top 10 by two picks to include a couple others).

Their recent picks mostly aren't Hall of Famers, but they've been good, even great, impact players:

2005: DeMarcus Ware (No. 11)
2003: Terence Newman (No. 5)
2002: Roy Williams (No. 8)
1998: Greg Ellis (No. 8)
1991: Russell Maryland (No. 1)
1991: Alvin Harper (No. 12)
1989: Troy Aikman (No. 1)
1988: Michael Irvin (No. 11)
1987: Danny Noonan (No. 12)

The odds are, they'll get a good one at No. 9. Who and what they need most is still worth debate.
