During Sunday night's broadcast on NBC, Tony Dungy had this to say about Tony Romo, who was intercepted three times and sacked six times in the loss to Tennsee:
"Part of being a leader at the quarterback position is protecting the football. You've got to do that to be a great quarterback."
On Wednesday Romo was not completely familiar with Dungy's comments, but he knew it had something to do with turnovers.
"He's right," Romo said. "That's a good statement. But if you look though I think a lot of it is the decision making process. We have to protect the football. That's part of it too."
Romo offered an invitation to Dungy to let the former coach see how he goes about it.
"Same as Rex Ryan did," Romo said. "He can come along if he wants to see. He can see it anytime you're out here. That's just part of it. If you'd ask any of my coaches you'd probably get a different answer. If Tony Dungy was in here it'd be the same way."
Romo will not rant and rave on the sideline, which it seems is what many of you want him to do, but there doesn't mean there is a lack of passion behind what he does.
"Behind closed doors is really when you lead," Romo said. "A guy who does it for show is going to do it for show. For me, it's about talking and stressing the importance, this is the time it is when it needs to be said. To demean guys, we're all in the same thing together. I've said this a million times: the guy who's here and I see him here all offseason and he's committed to doing things right and working hard, comes out to throw extra, stays late, all this stuff, that guy when he messes up I know how bad he's trying, how much he cares. I'm going to be like, 'Keep going. It can't happen.' The other guy who's not here, is a little late all the time, blah, blah, blah, that guy you're going to tell, 'Let's go. Hey this can't happen. This is too many times. We're going to find somebody else if you can't do it this time.' That's part of the process."
