Did you watch games or read stat lines on nfl.com?
Those lines were weak. They could get no push. Draws, delays, fake reverse handoffs. No in line running worth a shit. The run game was smoke and mirrors.
They got zero push in the run game. I bet they averaged 0.5 yards on 3rd and short runs for like 3 years straight. It was the worst run blocking line in the nfl for at least 3 years.
Everything above are symptoms of what I said. Same issues exist for every team all throughout history that was pass first. They couldn't run the ball not because of bad linemen, but because it wasn't habit.
Ever heard of Joe Bugel? He was the first to espouse this philosophy and it's been proven true time and again.
The Dallas line of those years wasn't good. But it wasn't anywhere near as terrible as it looked, or what people think. They simply didn't know how to
attack. Because it wasn't practiced, it wasn't habit.
Agree. If you can't see the difference in the line now, you're blind. And Clutts has been a nice little FB
It's more a product of the priority than it is just the personnel. A good example of what I am talking about is Nate newton. Tex Schramm told jerry and Jimmy not to bother with him. He said Nate was lazy, not aggressive, and wasn't effective. Well, what changed?
Attack habit for offensive linemen, that's what.
The Cowboys were not capable of running well vs. defenses that were stacked against the run.
Because it wasn't taught, wasn't practiced, wasn't expected, wasn't a priority.
