The thoughts of former players carry weight. Thoughts by some of the best players in franchise history carry more weight even if they are no longer up close and personal to the Cowboys' inner workings.

On Monday, Tony Dorsett and Charles Haley took part in an ESPN Chalk Talk program at Cowboys Stadium and they didn't spare any feelings when discussing the current team and its 1-4 record.

"It's really hard to say what I really want to say," Dorsett said. "They're a bunch of underachievers. Coming into the season on paper these guys are one of the best teams in the league. They are talent-wise. For some reason when you start earning your money that's when it starts falling apart. They start making silly mistakes. They're not concentrating. They're having awful turnovers and penalties. That comes from practice.

"Then you look at it from a leadership area. You know, when I played ball, it was understood that if you didn't do your job, somebody else was going to come on the field for you. These guys get paid a lot of money to do their job and they're not doing them in a consistent manner. If a guy's not doing his job, call him out. Get in somebody's face, man. This thing can be corrected very easily ... Sometimes you've got to put some fear into these guys hearts to play to their potential."

Haley was even more blunt: "A bunch of guys on this team think they're stars, and they don't want to do the dirty work."
