** Another no helmet, no-pad practice after having the same type of workout on Monday. I'm guessing they'll be in pads in the afternoon. Or at least I hope they'd be in pads in the afternoon. After Saturday's game owner and GM Jerry Jones talked about the Chargers being more physicals, so I'll lean to some physical work here the next couple of days.
** Last year the Cowboys received excellent work from gunners Pat Watkins and Alan Ball on the punt team. With Ball taking over as the starting free safety, he will no longer cover punts. On Tuesday Watkins and Danny McCray handled the gunner job. McCray has a chance to be very good at it. His first tackle last week came as a gunner from the opposite side of the field on a punt.
** The first team punt team looked like this: McCray, Watkins, Sam Hurd , L.P. Ladouceur, Jason Williams, Brandon Williams, Victor Butler, Barry Church, Mike Hamlin, Steve Octavien and Mat McBriar.
** Alex Barron worked with the first team offense at right tackle and Hamlin was the starting strong safety for the second straight day.
** Not sure what is wrong with Sean Lee's right hand, but he had it taped pretty good for the morning walkthrough.
** John Garrett is an active tight ends coach. He'll get into some drills with his players, but as he taught Jason Pociask the proper way to drop on a punt block, Garrett ended up on the ground. Fellow assistant Ray Sherman gave Garrett some good-natured grief for ending up on the ground. Pociask might've been a little embarrassed too.
** Late in practice offensive line coach Hudson Houck yelled at the backup offensive line for improperly identifying the defensive front, so it seemed. Houck has been testy with his guys the last couple of days. It didn't help that there was a false start on the second snap of team drills.
** The offensive and defensive focus was on third downs, red zone and short yardage/goal line in the morning. The offense had at least three repeats for mistakes.
** During a walkthrough a ball should never end up on the ground but Tony Romo had two overthrows in the session, missing Felix Jones and Roy Williams on deeper throws.
** Sam Hurd suffered a flat tire making a catch after rookie Akwasi Owusu-Ansah stepped on his foot making a catch. Everybody should know what a flat tire is.
** New tight end Martin Rucker will get a real chance to make this team. He was taking second-team snaps in only his second practice when the Cowboys went to multiple tight end looks. He said the offense the Cowboys use is similar to what he had in Cleveland.
