Time For Sack Party To Return

It seems like we said the exact same thing a year ago, but the Cowboys are once again off to a slow start in the sack department.
Just two sacks in two games, one each from Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Ware, just won’t get the job done. Ironically, the Cowboys have faced a pair of quarterbacks who will typically get to the ground in Donovan McNabb and Jay Cutler.
Both of them made got harassed and hit all night, but only got sacked once each. That was a credit to their own offensive systems and they made sure they didn’t sit back there all day.
But if the Cowboys are going to step up the defensive pressure, they’ve got to figure out a way to get more pressure, and it’s not just by blitzing.
We know DeMarcus Ware is going to get his share of attention every week, but Spencer was supposed to offset that.
Now, it’s still early. Let’s not call this a problem by any means just yet. Because at the end of the day, getting pressure is still the most important thing because it can also lead to a turnover, a forced throw or a pass deflection.
Right now, the Cowboys rank 28th in the NFL in sacks, averaging just one per game.
What’s even stranger is this team is first on the flip side. The Cowboys have allowed just one sack this year, which leads the entire NFL. But then again, a few holding penalties in this first game made sure of that.
