Tim Tebow could cost Gary Kubiak his job

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 27, 2010, 8:09 AM EST

Texans owner Bob McNair confidently said he felt his team was on the right track two weeks ago.

Since then, his team has turned into the NFL’s preeminent slumpbuster. The Titans won their first game in seven tries convincingly when they hosted the Texans. The Broncos ended their five-game skid with a 24-23 comeback win over Houston Sunday.

We’ll get into Tim Tebow’s terrific day a little later. But it’s worth pointing out that the most respected media names in Houston believe this Texans collapse will be the straw that break’s Kubiak’s back.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle: “After the way the Texans blew Denver game leading 17-0 at halftime and 23-10 in the 4th quarter, I’ll be stunned if the staff isn’t fired.”

Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle: “Is Bob McNair really going to make Gary Kubiak coach one final game? What purpose would that serve?”

Houston’s defense gave up four touchdown drives in the second half over 70 yards. The offense only scored six points after halftime, with Arian Foster only seeing five carries despite the big lead. We sense the Texans badly want to keep Kubiak for offensive continuity, but that’s looking less likely.

“The Texans have the worst pass defense in the history of football at any level since the beginning of time,” McClain wrote.

If fired, it’s hard to imagine the Broncos seeing Kubiak as the guy to save their annually poor defense.

Fuck it, I'm moving to Houston. I already prefer their baseball and basketball teams.
