IRVING, Texas -- While the Dallas Cowboys are losing quarterback Tony Romo and middle linebacker Sean Lee for the regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, the return of wide receiver/returner Dwayne Harris from a hamstring injury might bring some comfort.
Harris missed the past two games with a nagging hamstring injury and was replaced by Cole Beasley and Michael Spurlock on punt and kick returns.
"When you have a number of different injuries you have to make some hard decisions about who can stay on the roster and dealing with those things," coach Jason Garrett said. "We’re hopeful that Dwayne can practice [Wednesday] and can continue to get better as the week goes on."
Harris said he felt fine during Wednesday's practice where he was limited and expects to pick up the pace as the week progresses.
On the season, Harris has been a productive member for the special-teams unit. He's second in the NFL in kickoff returns with a 30.5 average and while he doens't qualify to be among the punt return leaders, he's averaging 14 yards a return.
Harris has three punt returns of at least 20 or more yards which includes a 86-yard punt return for a score against Washington on Oct. 13. Harris produced nine kickoff returns of 30 or more yards this season.
The returner has felt helpless not being out there.
"Anytime you get on the field you want to try and make a play," he said. "Of course when you’re not out there you feel like that."
Sunday's opponent has allowed the fifth most kickoff return yards (1,164) in the NFL and allowed 205 punt return yards, the seventh fewest yards allowed in the league.
"Everybody runs different schemes; what Philadelphia does, a lot of people don’t do," Harris said. "Just watching doesn’t help you but you have to be out there on the field just fully I guess to do what you can do."
